people forget that in round 21 he gathered about 15 or 17touches, looked a little uneasy but after 12weeks out i cant blame him either, and in round 22 he had 9 shots on goal..sure his kicking was astray, but had he kicked 4 or 5 which was VERY possible had we been taking the game seriously, then he would have been the success story of the year with many carlton fans. The guy DOES still have something to offer i think

do you seriously watch the game???
In that round 21 game instead of manning up his opponent Drew Petrie who smashed us in that first quarter Whitnall was busy chasing easy kicks!!

while playing the floating role!

from where i was sitting, Petrie was manned up by Saddington (i could be wrong with that) but Lance was the loose player.

Carlton supporters on his back?
The weight of his footballing world .. if they haven't offered him a contract yet, I would suggest that they're not going to!

Hear, hear.
I was wondering why the mods didn't take it out, IMHO

But why should we put a guy on another contract that is THE CAPTAIN yet is dropped mid-season for fitness issues??

Come on guys, when are we going to draw the line that mediocrity is just not good enough!

We want players in the team working hard, after all, that's why they are making the big bucks and we aren't! We've been the worst side over the past 6 years, it's the year where hard decisions are being made in aid of the future then this has to be done. Everyone's on about getting Chris just as one aspect is his leadership on the training track, yet we're happy to contradict ourselves by rewarding a player that isn't!

So whilst he has given us service, he has been given ample opportunity regardless of the setbacks he's faced, to get himself right.

Time to go...

Don't worry son, some of our supporters have a disturbing blind loyalty to some of our players. Common sense and a professional "team first'' mentality doesn't come into it one iota

Increasing Speculation

Down the very bottom of the Jim Wilson piece in "The Sun" today ......

Quote:
Meanwhile, there is increasing speculation Carlton captain Lance Whitnall will be axed.

It's understood coach Brett Ratten will meet Whitnall in the next week.

Is absolutely desperate for a new contract to be offered by the club.
Is prepared to sign on for the base minimum if that what it takes. Unfortunately for big Lance its all too late…You have been caught out - BYE BYE.

It's sad to think that someone who has done so much for this club has to be treated like this by them .. sure, he's had his problems and he's bounced (sic) back, but desperate for a contract?! Yup - the bell tolls for thee, Lancelot. Time to hangeth up thy boots and put that footballing brain to use , perhaps in the coaching box - there your knee can degenerate as much as it wants to .. although that will make going up and down the steps during the breaks an issue

Footy is alive with legends of big men. OK - a huge Rugby League prop-forward is a requisite of the game, and big Artie Beetson (Balmain, Eastern Suburbs, Parramatta, Qld, Australia, local and national coach) could put a dozen pies away during the break .. 'sfar as I know he's still an asset to the game .. like they say at Nike, Lance - just do it!

he has done a lot for this club more like the club has done a lot for him.... paid well, looked after, but yet failed to turn up to a majority of pre seasons in good condition.

no better statement by the club then to give lance the old heave ho, and thats what they will do.

they waited until all the official afl functions are done with as he is our captain and representitive.

dispointing if you ask me, but i do acknowledge he how good he could have been if he had the body of an athlete.

..yer know, if he's desparate enough for a contract and willing to take min. wage.. ..he might be worth one last round.. ..he need not play every game afterall, we still lack depth and experience and he could be of use in helping along mister Kennedy.. .but if he's to remain he's gotta play in the goalsquare where his opponent can't risk running off him..

Good players will still run off him. Scarlett ran off the last line yesterday.

He takes up a spot on the list that could be better spent by drafting another kid who might make it.

Provides little leadership.

GAWN.

I'm really gutted by this. Very very disappointing.

Melvey saying that Larnce is gawn is the absolute last thing I wanted to hear now.

Do you get the feeling we're waiting to see if one C.Judd will be filling a spot on the list before Lances fate is determined?

He's a bit like that weird uncle that visits for Christmas, and can't take the hint that you don't want to talk to him.

Lance, PLEASE, end this torture now :(
