Now that Sumich is out of the race of the Bummers job, he has been chased hard by Carlton...Could this be the nail we need to land Judd as a blueboy?

That's an absurd statement.
To me it shows that a lot of the bad relations and enmity between Pagan and Mitchell didn't come from Pagan's side alone.

Did he actually achieve anything in his time there?

Quoted for @#$%&! truth.

Not going to comment on the politics... just the process.

If Ratts (and Sticks you'd imagine) got overidden on Mitchell, then could the same happen on Lance?

Although I feel this is probably a good move, considering the way the relationship has worked out over the last year, I am wary that it was against Ratten's wishes. Part of Pagan's problem was that he wasn't given enough leverage to work with, so was caught between his ideas and the clubs ideas, two very different things. It turns out the compromise wasn't a good solution at all.

If Ratten is being compromised, then that's not a good thing. However, if it is for the betterment of the club, then I don't have a problem with it.

I also wasn't a fan of what Dick Pratt had to say in the Hun today re: Judd. Offering him a Visy job, etc. Seemed like he was talking the option up a bit too much. Wrong thread I know.
Anyone got a link/start a new thread?

The days of the uber-coach are gone. Ratts is a member of a team, and not every decision should or needs to rest with him. I think he should have a say in his assistants, but the club's management (Swann/Icke) have the ultimate responsibility to build the best off-field team in the AFL.

Can I pose a question to those of you that are overjoyed at Mitchell's sacking, how many Bullants games have you attended? How many player chit-chats have you listened in on in the quarterly breaks? How many times have you spoken to Barry in person?

I dare say it's easy to lay blame when many here may be basing their judgements on what's been potrayed in the media.

I'm very disappointed he's gone. If it truly is an overruling on judgement by Swann/Icke, I do ly in hope that it will continue when Lance's decision is being made, that is pending Ratten does actually want him!

Had a staff member that was a complete pain in the butt....everyone avoided him, worked around him and had strategies for dealing with him...except one person. Forever complaining that they were a pain, always looking for ways to get into conflict etc.

Despite numerous attempts, it stayed this way....in the end I got rid of both.

I'm guessing Swann saw it a similiar way

I've been to fair amount of bullants games over the last 4-5 years and heard mitchell speak at the qtr time breaks, and thought he was ok. He didnt really blow me away or anything, but he was competent.

I suppose another thing to look at is how he has devleoped our kids - at this moment, you would probably say our kids havent developed as well as other teams, but this is always a hard task to measure, and even if you can, who has the responsibility of developing the kids anyway???

I think the fairest view is that mitchell has had 6 years at the club, with probably a pass mark for his job. In such a situation, I dont think it hurts to bring in some fresh blood, and see if we can get someone who might get more than a pass mark. Further, if we can get an assistant coach from a succesful team, I think it would be nice insurance just to make sure we know what they are doing and to make sure we arent falling behind in the ideas stakes.

I dont think mitchell should be offended by this, he has had a good run and I am sure will get work elsewhere.

Ask the players he coached.

I wonder if they want Riley to coach the Ants?

He's a Mitchell, he just might keep coming back for another round.

Mitchell has been at the club longer than 6 years. Before he became a fully fledged assistant coach, he was the fitness coach of sorts.

I haven't heard him directly even in the media so I'm not going to comment on whether it's a good thing or not.

However, I will comment about the perception that Ratten is being compromised somewhat. I suppose it's another part of the coaching caper he'll learn.

I always felt sorry for Mitchell during this whole saga, and felt that already being able to work with Ratts was paying dividends (eg. recommending Jackson and Jamison as ready for seniors). But I guess the club wants a completely fresh startand perhaps felt that Mitchell may have lost too much confidence because of the Pagan thing and could use a fresh start himself.

All the best to him. Hope another club picks him up.

Apparently against Ratts wishes and you bet against Sticks and Bears, but Swannie and co have prevailed. With Libba being shunted off and now Mitch, we will almost have a clean slate for the preseason. Riley was the first new appointment, who is next...Sumich/Bond/McKenna? 8)

Good stuff.
We need to break up the boys club mentality and become a professional unit

Calling River Rat - what's your opinion, you know more about the Ants than virtually everyone else on here. Be interested in your opinion.

From my pov I was never a fan, but people who know more than me were. I just always thought he was a dull little man who didn't seem very inspirational. And whoever was mainly to blame for the Mitch / Pagan fall out - it takes two to tango, and I think it was the beginning of the end for both.

I think assistants need to be turned over a bit, and Mitch has been there a long time. I'm not sure what other offers he's had, but you'd like to think your assistants would be good enough to be sought after elsewhere. (Lyon, Worsfold, Judge).

It's a big fall, from near AFL coach to no job.

I'd like to see Britts back as VFL coach. I thought he had great skills and would help Ratts who has a high regard for him. Think he would work well with Riley too (who I am happy to get, sems like a guy who can connect with players).

Our development of players seems behind sides like the Pies, not sure if that is lack of development coaches but maybe Mitch bears some responsibility seeing he oversaw our young guys.

Don't bear Mitch ill will, but not unhappy to see him go.
