Are you talking about when our game plan was to kick 150 points a game and let the opposition do likewise?? That's Pagan's fault not Setanta's. Think back to how many cheap ones Lloyd kicked on him. Under Ratts game plan you won't see Setanta get ample goals kicked on him.

As I said I'm not bagging the guy just saying he can't get best player votes if he's getting out rucked and lots of goals kicked on him otherwise we may as well call it the Mediocre and Fairest award.

It should have been renamed that after McKernan won it.

 Corey actually was outstanding in the 2nd half of the season, the problem was he was so bad in the first half he should have got minus votes.

He only bothered doing anything once we were down by 80 odd points.

The master of red time pointless goals.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not in the least trying to say that stats mean everything or saying that Kennedy, Bower, Saddo, Banno had poor seasons but Setanta was EASILLY better and more consistant than those players yet he finishes lower than them?

WHAT? :?

You don't get votes for just rocking up and getting a couple of kicks. This award is for the best player and considering Setanta conceded a lot of goals when played in defence and was beaten badly in the ruck when he played there where would he be getting these votes from?
I don't want to kick the guy as he's coming along nicely but he isn't anywhere near a top player yet.

Could you name for me somebody in the team that DIDN'T concede a great number of goals?

I'd like to see the stats, but i'd dare say that Setanta was actually one of our better defenders. Dare i say it, he was a much stronger performer than the likes of Thornton and Saddo who just happen to poll better than him.

Ditto Bower, who played less that 10 games.......

Sorry, but I'm not a fan of how we are judging in the B&F.

After the first 6 or so weeks Setanta had conceded the most goals to his opponent in the AFL.

Really? No, that cannot be right.

I remember reading an article halfway through the year saying that Thornton had actually conseded the most goals of all the carlton defenders (in that same article, Gibbs was mentioned as the best).

Do you have any stats or a proof of this................. not calling you a liar or antything, i'm just in disbelief!

Actually it was Saddington. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Setanta was the only Carlton player mentioned based on these stats after the first 6 rounds but you just jump in without even reading what people are discussing!

Saddo averaged more goal concedes. I think that stat is way more important that just looking at 6 specific rounds.

Setanta should've got votes in the B&F for his goal celebrations alone. They were golden and worth 2-3 aditional goals per game for inspirational value!

Well in the TC voting Setanta finished in 21st place and got 3 votes comapred to the winners 49 votes (equivalent to 6% of the winners votes).

In the official B&F Setanta finished in 23rd place and got 10 votes compared to the winners 218 votes (equivalent to 4.5% of the winners votes).

Not much difference there.

..love yer work..

.. ..we all dig the big Setant', and it's just affection paintin' yer glasses a nice rosy hue.... ..he tries hard, and does a few good things in a game.. ..and that's how us and them have judged his performances and rightly so.. ..i've got faith him in, he should poll alot better next year,, especially when they (fingers crossed) leave him in one/the same position for the season..

But according to Jars analysis, the big fella still should have got 3 more votes in the B&F... which happens to be a 30% improvement in what he actually got. See, I knew he got ripped off. Thanks Jars!!

The stat was put on TV after round 5 or 6, he was moved into the ruck not long after that because he was getting thrashed. Next time read the damn thread before you but in with your smart arse comments.

Chill out mate.

Tell me when he got thrashed? The only game that he was beaten (not thrashed) was against the Saints, playing on one of the best of them in Gehrig. Goals kicked against mean a lot less when the midfield is getting cut up and allowing more forward entries than other team.

Add to that that Setanta was playing on the best forwards in the league in a short space of time - Richardson (3 goals), Ottens (0 gaols), LLoyd (5 cheap goals), Brown (3 goals) and Gerhig (6 goals) - and he'd only played less than 15 career games himself.

Some perspective please. A thrashing is Modra vs Silvagni 1994! Setanta can hold his head very high from his first real season. Shame that you can't see that.

I'm happy with Setanta too I was just giving Ryan the reasons why he didn't poll well in the B&F. Getting beaten by your opponent most weeks despite who you are playing on, how hard you try or how long you've been playing won't win you any.
