very well said, DOA.

i have no issues with our guys going out and having a couple drinks. to imply or assume they are being irresponsible is, as DOA said, nonsense. they're young guys and shouldnt be shackled down, not one of these young guys have embarrassed themselves or the club. personally i think this 'culture' isnt worrying at all, as its more than likely each and every club has quite a few guys who get out on the drink from time to time.

When one of those players is the Captain who only 2 weeks ago was off his face as seen by my 19 year old nephew in the early hours of Sunday morning, the problem probably stems from TPTB who felt that this guy was a leader among men.

Whilst I have no issue with players drinking, this particular player, should not have been one of them given his weight issues.

Ah, how times change. Sellers, JB, Dom, Val, Rhys,Wow, to name a few, were not unaccustomed to the odd cleansing ale.
All premiership players too!
I appreciate the game and it's demands have changed , but not sure that it's all been for the better.

spot on Murraycray

there is nothing wrong at all if they get on the juice for a few beers during the season.

all within reason of course, but all this talk of zero alchol, late nights, flower crap.

they are young blokes - let them be

Couldn't agree more gents. Nothing wrong with having a bit of an relaxing time, if it doesn't get beyond however. I'm all for it in fact.

They should bring back a social drink after the game or a club supervised and endorsed function mid week to get some team bonding and allow the players to let their hair down a bit. It could be be quite constructive and helpful to the players and the club.

A social get together with supporters (after the game) works very well with the Melbourne Storm. I too have seen groups of 6-8 Carlton players out at any one time at various clubs, enjoying themselves but then again nothing too nefarious.

Back to the social thing, it would hopefully drag a fair few Carlton supporters into the social club to have a drink after the game and meet the players. I like to have a drink after going to the matches - having the players at the social club would probably swing me towards going there...

I'm not implying or assuming. I've seen them out myself. And I'm not saying its all of them. I agree we can't say no alcohol, late nights etc, but theres got to be a limit. Theres a difference between having a few drinks and being spastic. The Carlton boys are known to be, and this is from a young player at another Melbourne club, "loose as"

All I'm saying is there is so much discussion on here about ways to improve and to play better, and I just think this could help us. And I'm not having a go at our players (it may have come out like that)
After all, they are just following the example of our great captain who appears to be leading by example most weekends

Is it all our players?

If not, tell us who the players are so we can all know.

Part of the solution - recruit a player who has won a premiership before and has leadership skills/runs on the board.
In other words - a person who commands respect by having the runs on the board to back up what he demands of those around him.
And no, I don't necessarily mean Judd either.
A quality player that would automatically be considered in the top 5 players at our club.
I believe Ratts will take care of the players that don't show the attitude that he expects.

The issue to due to the relatively high proportion of kids on our list, and with such poor leadership around the club from our senior players who are just as bad as the kids this looks unlikely to change any time in the near future.
This will be taken care of during the delist period, won't it?

Also, I reckon the same stance should be taken as by Rugby clubs (league and union) .. nil tolerance .. just ask Angwyn and Norman (although that was more than drink I know) .. curfews, behaviour codes ... I don't know if our boys go out on benders .. I'm no wowser but you don't need to get off your face to bond!
