Synners I see where youre coming from re: degradation of family time/ 7 days a week working etc, but surely arguing that Good Friay should be reserved for 'family time' is a band aid fix to a much broader and important social debate.
"Family time" should not be a capricious 'public holiday only' reservation- this, in my opinion, makes 'family time' seem more contrived and far less "meaningful."
I know, as a 20 year old, that the best examples of family time arent the family weddings or dinners etc, but sitting at the dinner table every night, having a chat to dad and mum on my break from Uni study, hell, even watching mum cut up tomatoes and cucumbers when she makes me her special salad for lunch :)

I think reserving family time for Good Friday and other special eveitnts cheapens what is, in reality, an invaluable part of our lives.

It doesnt.. cos people need to have a day set aside for them with NO DISTRACTIONS..cos very soon people will be working hard for half of their lives to have the money come out during the other half f their lives.

Youre going to be working harder.. longer.. to pay the man who has you by the balls....

Like i keep saying... The Western Easter only overlaps wth mine once each 4 or 5 years... i still dont want football on a day when ts not my Easter..
I still have to find stuff to do... and i do!... i dont want to think i have to force footballers to entertain me on a day i have no distractions.

Synbad, if you want no distractions you have the power to do it at any time, a football match on Good Friday shouldn't interrupt you day of no distractions if that is what you really want. Distractions are easy to remove if you have the will power to do it.

I am all for good friday football but not all of my family are. But to stop supporting Carlton because we will be involved in Good Friday Football is not good. I think if somehow, some of the profits made at the game that day go to The Good Friday Appeal, then everyone's a winner.

More often than not, it's the umps crucifying us.

IMO people are expecting Good Friday Football to be as big as Anzac day.

These people are kidding themselves.

I would rather have the Easter Monday game!

Jokes aside, THAT would be an event to rival ANZAC Day, especially if our performances improve as time goes on. But then again, how much more money would we be then putting in Eddie McFat's pockets?

As someone who celebrates Easter as a part of my faith, football on Good Friday is a big no no.

my point is youre Greek did you only observe Good Friday once every four years - dont thinks so, like the rest of us - people got choice

When my team plays on my Good friday i dont go. Even though its tempting.
I do enjy catching up with friends and family .

I reckon that because people are so busy these days they need a day without distractions to concentrate on the mst important things they have.. each other.

Its actually sad that people cannot entertain themselves one day of the year ... they cant invite people around for a bbq.. or go away for a long weekend... cant sit around and talk without distractons.
Its actualy weird...

We dont have anything to do .. we need the footy!!!

I find it unbelievaby weird...
Tome whether yure religious or not.. its a antastic opportunity for time without distractions with those you love most

And im sure some footballers would want the same thing.

We want our holidays but we dont like what comes with it.. abd cant give a stuff abut the footbalers holidays...

Just more and more pathetic...

I couldnt say it any better so i won't

It is even sadder that one day a year has to be set aside for family.

Every day of the year should be set aside for family.
