But I don't work on Sundays, or Saturdays. And most Friday nights, I'm either out or having a relax in front of the telly. Does that mean that footballer's shouldn't have to work on those days either? Look, I really don't think too many footballers would have a problem playing on Friday.

Working on a Weekend and working on a public holiday is completely different.

The difference between Good Friday and the Christmas public holiday is
that one day is a day of mourning and the other day is a joy ace occasion.

We are not supposed to look forward to good Friday. It was made a public holiday for the reason that people are to sad to work( to an extent)

I'm a catholic and a very poorly practising one may i add and the only day i go to church is on christmas day. Footy should be played on good friday, majority of the players would be fine and there are that many sports carnivals run all over the country that sport is played over easter and they start the carnival on the firday(tennis, basketball and lawn bowls where the majority of the people who are playing are in their older age and still live by ther religion more so than youngsters today), they dont wait till the saturday. So why not, these guys are professionals, all accross the world as they say they play on other reliogious days so why not. If you're not happy, dont watch or dont go. Simple and we would still respect the 1's that dont go because thats their religious choice.

Must say, this is the most decisive poll I've seen on the issue, perhaps community sentiment is changing

Twilight match has Good Friday appeal
Quote:
In a massive historic and cultural shift, a Good Friday twilight game between the Blues and the Hawks would be played at the MCG after a joint submission by the two clubs that has received the unofficial support of AFL Commission chairman Mike Fitzpatrick.

The late Ron Evans promised Kennedy he would not schedule a game on Good Friday during his tenure as AFL commissioner but Fitzpatrick, who is believed to have been canvassed by Blues chief executive Greg Swann, feels no historic constraint.

Quote:
Demetriou said he remained a Good Friday football opponent but hinted that his concerns with the cultural change would be overridden by the commission

Quote:
Carlton, which would be the home team on 2008 Good Friday, and Hawthorn have applied to make their Easter clash an annual AFL event,

:-D

I have no problem with it. All the money could go to the Royal Children's Hospital or St. Vincent's De Paul or a worthwhile Christian Charity.

If this occurs it's fantastic news for us.

The Anzac day clash will look like small bananas compared to this.

BRING IT ON

i'll sacrifice a lamb to the delphic oracle and let you know whether this holy marriage of good friday and football sits well...

traditionally speaking and i am not catholic i think its poor taste and is the pure definition of cultural degenracy.

i like living under the great southern cross and what it stands for....

Thank God for that.
I thought we were going to see an overreaction.

Massive news. :-D

Well done to all involved, this will be a huge game with two teams that should be powers on the field in the next decade.

I hope it doesn't become an annual game against the Hawks as I normally go with a group to the Hawks games and half us won't be able to attend this. :?

I'm rapted! :-D

Well done to the club for getting this concept one step closer to reality. I understand and respect those that have reservations about this date, but I'll be there with bells on!

Most boring day of the calander you will not only get Blues and hawks fans attending but many other football fans just wanting to do something.

Arguments against only need to look at other sports played on Good Friday like NRL / Basketball ect ect

Easter Sunday is more of a family day for people than even good friday

Bring it on and would be a good draw card for the Blues especially if they are the only ones involved with the hawks

Won't be able to, or will choose not to?
