Always a favorite of mine... great club man. I remember him voluntarily taking a pay cut when Kouta, Campo had to be forced to do so. Always gave 100% on the field.

Would have loved both Lappo and Kouta to have a 'final' game like the scum gave for Hirdy. Pity injuries have prevented it.

All the best on the golf course Lappo.

thanks buzz.

Good to see Ratts making hard calls already. Lappin could have definitely been useful, especially with a more possession style game, but the hard call was made. Am confident now that others will be moved on as needed.

The only negative from that is that this week's team being the 7th youngest in history means I have to redo those Blueseum pages again.

Lappin said it was Ratten first hard call. Sounds like he was expecting more. Good to see that Brett can see past a personal relationship with an ex-teamate and good bloke. Makes me very satisfied.

Come on Molsey, isnt it worth 20min of your time, if it get us closer to the Kreuzer

Great interview, such a shame that he didn't get to leave on his terms but he has handled it without a trace of bitterness. It will be a hard pill to swallow if Skinny has to go and Lance gets to stay.

The mark of a truely great guy that he has no bitterness towards Ratts or the club for making the hard call. Well done Skinny.

Sounds classy indeed - perhaps the club has come to some arrangement re a development role for him or something - to compare how he handled his exit from the club with the way Camporeale, Beaumont, Manton amongst others...

Lappin also mentioned that if the team was a chance to make finals next year Ratten would of kept him. Didn't think Lappin will be there in two or three years when we will be challenging for finals.

Why assume he had to be offered something? Lappin was always a class above those blokes. He may have had disagreements with Denis at times but it's clear that he never turned them into the personal crap that Beaumont and co did.

I would have been happy if they'd made him captain 2-3 years ago. Couldn't have been worse than the last couple.

BTW - if Ratten's made this call on Lappin then Lance doesn't have a hope in hell.

With the loyalty he has shown in the past, wouldn't have been at all wrong to keep him on for another year. For example, he's a better player than Joel Smith, I guess the only difference is where the teams are placed that keeps them on the list. Unfortunate for a great clubman.

It's great to see the class of such an awesome footballer that had his career cut short when he still had some more footy in him. He was very good in a lot games this year. I have always been a huge fan. One of the most skillful and talented players we've had on our list in the past 10 years. If only some of the supporters on this site were as classy, when discussing Skinny.

Great interview - Lappin spoke very well and quite open in his views and thoughts. His comments about Whitnall and that as a team mate he wished that he had got into shape earlier in his career was telling i thougt.

Also was asked about who he would be baracking for on Suuday, and he said that if we win - we win and that is we lose - we still win 8) . Said that it was neither the club nor players fault for all this talk and that they were just wroking within the system in place.

doesn't seem to have a very high opinion of elliott, mentioned how much the salary cap cheating hurt the club.

said the club owed pagan an apology for bringing him over and then being hit with the penalties and restrictions.

very honest in his thougts in particualr when he mentioned that is he was coach, he would do the same thing as ratten has with him.

Terrific player, quality person and obviously a pretty deep thinker about the game.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't find himself in a coaching or development role in the near future.

lets not overlook the fact that Lappin himself has admitted his body is struggling.

Absolutely class player and person. We hit gold with this trade and his use of the ball was always first class.

A great example how you can play AFL body with smarts.

Lapps for was very skillful and athletic, not just smart. Let's not underplay how good he was physically just cause he was skinny. Hardly any injuries and tackled well for his stature.

Good point. Lappin was still contributing and could get around the ground.

He did say in the interview that he would like to pursue a coaching career in the future. He also said he would like to play footy at lower level next year. They asked him if he would play at another club, and he said that it was highly unlikely and he would rather be known as a Carlton player anyway.

Great player.

shattered!!!...easily my favourite player at the club, because i love his smarts, professionalism and incredible skill. He is like Aker, who is my fav non-carlton player. I will be soo p*ssed off if lappin is pushed and whitnall gets to stay on. If that happens then frankly we deserve to be crap. I disagree that by creating a young team you get rid of all your senior players immediately, i think it should be a gradual transition and the young guys should be learning from the experienced players. Lappin would be a great influence on the young dudes, now i fear they will be learning from Fev, shitnall and houla.

Extremenly disappointed that he was pushed given that he can still play good footy and my disillusionment with the club goes to another level.

Anyway, on a more positive note. Loved watching you play Matty and will really miss seeing you on the park next year. you provided me with many great memories and left me bewildered with some of the things you pulled off on the field. i know many bombers supporters that hate you, which should make you proud.

Good luck next year, hope you stay around the club.

I'm not saying he was given a golden handshake. I'm saying that perhaps the club can now hire him as a development coach etc because he has retired - I'm not saying the two were linked. It was poorly phrased, however, my apologies.
