So many highlights, what a great career. Thanks Matty I'm going to miss your magic.

Skinny's going to be hard to replace.

Great words.

First to get up - brave player.

Lappin in best position, oh, clever mark!

:(

Yeah, I saw how hard Fev worked and how fast he ran in that video.

Fev got to the goal line before the ball.

One of the smartest and highly skilled players i have had the absolute pleasure to watch....

Unreplaceable. Elite player who ranked among the best in the comp.

Well done Matty, all the best champ.

I remember reading an article about Lappin busting his spleen is his younger days.
His Doc said "you have two options, we pull the spleen out and you can still play footy, or we stitch it up and that's the end of playing footy"

Matty's response was " stitch it up"

That epitemises him. 8)

was there in about the 10th row back from the fence in'99 - on the 50m line..

Lappin's silhouette against the lights on that memorable night is etched in my mind forever!

You skinny, little legend. You'll live on in the hearts of Carlton supporters for many, many years to come.

I heard his interview on 3aw.
A champion of a bloke.
Im hoping we can find a spot for him somewhere. Just a smart and interesting guy who is always upfront.

Just heard the news. Shame but probably well timed. Skinny you are and always were a class act on and off the field. IMO was played out of position for most of the dreaded Pagan years but around goals there was no better player. Loved his games against the scum. Memories a plenty there.

Thanks Skinny and good luck in whatever your future holds.

I can't believe what I'm reading!

I am sure there is a good reason for exiting now

The writing was on the wall, unfortunately .. having only appearded once since the big 250 ... I was beginning to wonder ....

Good luck in your endeavours, Matthew. I hope to see you at the opening of [Product Name] oval when celebrating the 17th premiership!

Good on you ... yours will be hard boots to fill ... just hope the injury isn't too serious, and to see you do a lap of honour soon!!!

Thank u Skinny, i will remember you as the player who put his hands up and said i am going to kick the goals, and i am going to be the full forward, and i am going to be the half forward, and i am going to be the one taking screamers.....

that was few years a go, in the darkest period of Carlton's history when skinny was our leading goal kicker for the year and was playing as the number one forward... Quite sad yet brave for a guy his size to carry such load!!!!

It's been a pleasure watching you play Matty and thanks for sticking around when you could have easily gone elsewhere. Pound for pound as brave as Kenny Hunter. We're all going to miss the long sleeved number 12.

Best of luck for the future and here's hoping these new bunch of kids can make you proud.

one of the few remaining from the clubs darkest era who was a class act. If any deserved a contract befitting a class player it was this guy. When he played back or forward was almost always until very recently one of our best.

Good luck and thanks for some great footy moments.

Great player for the blues - good wishes.

Anyone notice on Deano's post of Lappin's blind turn and bomb, the hard running work the Fev did from the centre to the goal line?

Yes did notice.

Notice also that Skinny saved a lot of his best work against the SCUM.

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Fantastic player.
Always gave 100%
Team man.
Would always want us to win.
Knows what we need this week, so retires instead of the "glory"(read Hird and Sheedy) of a last match.

Matty, you always put your body on the line and this time you have sacrificed personal accolades for the good of the club.

I salute you.

Sad to see Lappin go,but again he thought of the club, even thou i wouldn't have mind another season to get that 200 games as he still capable of playing good footy. This player played taller then he was and was hard at it,to play 250 so games it's absolute quality for a player with his frame, one of the players i thought gave it all to the club.

Matthew Lappin calls it quits - Herald Sun

Lappin stills looks like a kid that wandered into the club asking for a chance to train with Carlton.

Image

Walker looks like a juggernaut next to Skinny. :)

Legend.
Quote:
"Had it been a big game and I had to get up, I might have pushed myself, but I'm not 100 per cent and the opportunity is there to blood another young player and that's important to the club at the moment," Lappin said.

"The club is heading down a different path now and they need to focus more on playing the kids. I'm not going to be around in two or three years when the club starts climbing back up the ladder. So it's in the best interests for me to step aside to give the kids more game time.

"Ratts is going to be an awesome coach and he has a game plan that suits my body type and the way I play. But my time has been and gone.

"To get 251 games out of this body, I'm just so proud of what I've achieved. For me to play on would be selfish. The club has made the right choice and, if I had of been the coach, I would've made exactly the same choice."

Quote:
Lappin was so light he could've ridden one of the topweights in the Melbourne Cup when St Kilda recruiting officer Wayne Hughes, now at Carlton, spotted him playing with Chiltern in northern Victoria.

Hughes recalled yesterday how Lappin's father thought he was inquiring about the older son when he visited their home before the 1993 national draft.

Great interview
Wanted to play on
Ratts made the call that he wanted to go with youth. Lappin said even though he wanted to play, he would have done the same thing in Ratts' shoes.
Said the team that runs out this week will be the 7th youngest in history.
Said the club owes Pagan an apology for luring him over without him knowing the shit the club was in.
Blamed the draft penalties for the clubs plight over the last 5 years.
Non committal about Whits for next year, very much behind fev staying on
