Thought this was a good opportunity to post a pic of Skinny with my niece:

Champion this bloke, will miss him dearly. He played much bigger than his height, kicked goals, took big marks, and just an all round smart footballer. He had what you cant teach... footy smarts... easily one of my fav's

Good on you Matty..

When he was at his peak I believe he was top ten in the league.

Well Done Skinny, you were a pleasure to watch.

I hope to see you as a Player / Coach up in the O & M league near your home at Chiltern.

Congrats on a great career Skinny - you stuck through us with the bad times and it makes me sad that you wont be still playing when we turn it around.

Enjoy whatever life brings you and know that you have brought many a smile to Carlton supporters everywhere.

Robbed of a Big Nick medal a couple of years ago IMO.

A player who had great natural football skill.

Respect in retirement Skinny.

Matty, you were a class act as a player and as a person. You showed true loyalty at a time when it would have been easy to walk away. Thank you for the memories and everything you have given our club. You will be missed!

One of the more naturally gifted players I have seen. Not only that, a champion bloke who stood by the club when it would have been easy to take a big paycheck at greener pastures.

Cheers Skinny - the best 3rd round pick the club has spent, IMHO.

Good luck.

Congratulations to Matty Lappin .. what a fine player and solid contributor he was!

He loved the blues and almost couldn't have gone to richmond for heaps more money one year but stuck with us.

Just wish he could have been here for the good times ahead.

Shame to see you go Skinny, always a fave and a leader through some tough times. A consistant performer who was never rewarded with big long term contracts when Lance and Campo got them. A bloke who won the 04' B&F by a country mile and was dudded by a contrived celebration of backwards recruiting. A club champ in my eyes anyway

Spot on Clayman. O&M and GV league clubs will be jumping over themselves to get him on board.

Yep QFT, will miss his uncanny ability to pull off the big mark in the forward line. Very glad he came to Carlton

Yeah in 2004, he was AA

He had a good career and remember he was a 1999 GF player...and served Carlton well

We needed two Lappin's. One in the back line providing drive, and the other in the Forward Pocket.

Very sad news to hear of Skinny's retirement.

We kind of assumed he'd he there for the young kids next year; but not to be......a bad back is not a good injury for a fearless guy like Skinny.

How he survived all of these years with that wiry frame I'll never know; his courage was as incredible as his talent was great.

Thanks for the memories mate !!!

One of those guys with something special. Great player Skinny, we were fortunate to have him during the dark days.

Great player. A shining light in bad times, as other have said.

Should be a dual All-Australian, too. Bloody idiot AA selectors...

It was fun while it lasted, Skinny.
