New game plan this Sunday.

All players must kick and handball on their non preferred side, except for Scotland who is not allowed to kick the footy at all.

All players must kick backwards as the first option and across goal at every opportunity and all kicks across goal must not travel more than 2 meter's off the ground.

We are going to bring back Pagan's paddock and no Carlton player is allowed to enter the F50 at all, any shots towards goals must be outside the F50.

Seriously, this game on Sunday is going to be a joke and it should be canceled.

I wonder how the players will feel when they are boo'ed off the ground for winning. AFL have turned this game into a mockery. They should show some leadership and do something about it now. Either give both clubs PPs or only give it to the winning team.

just hypothetically ... were we to tank ... why not do it properly and just forfeit the game

why bother pretending being anything less than obvious about it

it would show up the sham that the PP has become and

should sent Andy and Addy into a state of hyper tension :-D

could they take the PP off us again based on a forfeit :?:

wouldn't that be an interesting predicament for them to be in

It would be called putting the game in disrepute and they would take the PP off us.

is a forfeit throwing the game into disrepute when it's aim is to maximise the benefits of an existing AFL rule ?

that's the interesting part for me... surely they will twist a bowel with whatever convolusions that will be required of them...if it help bring down the current regime... I think it might be worth it

I don't like the thought of tanking I was always one of those people who said win at all costs that's the point of football...but, we have seen what planning for the future means, if you don't do it you end up having years of crap. It's the only result, it's a no brainer to lose this week everyone i have spoken to agrees with us.

We gain nothing from winning, no momentum as it's the end of the season, it's all about next year as Ratten and several others have said.

Media Release from the AFL

Wednesday 29/8/2007 11am

Thank-you for coming.

I'm here to announce that due to a previously unforseen situation that has arisen the AFL Commission has held an extraordinary meeting and endorsed the following proposal:

The three teams currently in contention for a priority pick for the 2007 AFL Draft shall be granted their respective picks immediately. Carlton shall be granted a first round pick (Pick 1) and Richmond and Melbourne shall each receive a second round pick (Picks 18 and 19 respectively).

The intention of the priority pick system was to help struggling clubs add quality draft picks to their list. We currently have three clubs that are clearly struggling onfield. As a result of the structure of the system in place we now have a situation where two teams are drawn to play each other in Round 22 with the winner to miss out on its additional pick whilst the loser receives one. Clearly there is a problem with this scenario and the game itself is the biggest loser.

Whilst neither the Commission nor I believe clubs will actively seek to lose a game we understand that this is not the current perception held by many within the football community and the general public and hence we have taken this action to restore the integrity of our great game.

The AFL continues to believe in the need for some sort of draft assistance for struggling clubs however there is clearly an anomaly in the current system and the nature of the priority pick system shall be reviewed at the end of the season.

May Carlton and Melbourne supporters turn up in their droves to support their clubs on Sunday afternoon and may the best team win.

Thank-you.

Andrew Demetriou
AFL CEO

If Melbourne send 19 players onto the field but Carlton send 20 players (accidentally, of course) onto the field do Carlton lose the points ?

Or do they both teams lose points - thus creating the best result for both teams ?

:-D

Kouta says 'lose it', well I think Kouta has lost it.

He would have been better keeping his gob shut on this matter, until after we lose the game. Nothing to be gained from what he said, it only fuels the fire.

How do you determine if any teams gets a PP based on wins.
Will clubs tank games and play kids while resting stars prior to rd 15 to get an advantage and then play to win after that?

Thank Goodness the Drug issue in the AFL and players dispute is diverting attention away from the Tanking issue

this needs to carry on over the weekend to take attention from the Friday game.

we will win this weekend i have no doubt what so ever. i have already resigned myself to the fact that we going to look a gift horse sqarely in the mouth and simply ignore it. the entire football world is goading us to win the game.

just a disgraceful situation that the afl clearly has the power to act on, but are quite happy to stick their collective heads in the sand and let play out into farce. their stand on important matters most of the time is 'if you don't admit there is a problem, then there isn't one'. i don't think anyone could disagree that we are in dire need of assistance via draft picks.

gws is right on the money, that would be true leadership from the AFL, but they'll happily sit by and watch a farce ensue.
