I wonder if they'll play the losing club's song at the end of the game. They really should, you know.

I still can't get my head around the fact that if we beat Melbourne, we'll end up with a significantly worse position in the draft than they will. (3 and 21 vs 2, 18 and 20)

WTF gives with this system??? Melbourne hardly needs assistance to rebuild their list. They've just had a bad run with injuries this year.

This is just plain stupid. The system is pretty much compelling us to throw the game.

Or maybe the boys can start their Mad Monday on Sunday Night - and send out the cheersquads to play instead.

No Argo,

Our boys will go in tough and hard. The most fierce you will have seen from them this year.

They'll get the ball and take it through our own goals for hard fought rushed behinds.

They'll do this with much gusto as Melbourne will also be giving it their all.

The final siren:

Carlton 0.26
Melbourne 0.34

Seriously, the AFL should come out and say whoever wins the game on Sunday gets the priority pick.

Give both teams something to fight for.

Nah, they can't do that.

But they should be allowed to say: "Carlton has such a shit list, and has played so poorly over a number of years, that the AFL Commission agrees that for the betterment of the competition, the Carlton Football Club shall receive a pre-draft PP regardless of the outcome of round 22".

'cos let's face it, we are that shit.

Surely that would do less harm to the 'integrity' of the game than the farce we're going to have to endure on Sunday. Which is, let's not forget, the final match of the home and away season. What a way to go out :garthp:

If Melbourne try the 19 man trick, I would expect us to not go and ask for a head count. If we do, then I'd be asking the AFL to look very carefully at the circumstances regarding that.

I have a feeling after what Lyon said that they might try the 19 man trick. Mind you, if they did, I reckon all the clubs in the land would protest and claim they manufactured it.

The late Sunday nature of the game makes things more stressful. This is our grand-final, I haven't been this nervous since the 2001 finals.

At this stage, unfortunately, I can't see us losing. Sigh

Man, this system sucks, the AFL sucks, opposition supporters suck.

Dennis.

I would expect our bench to be instructed to follow their opponents wherever they go.

44 players on the ground at the same time will give "The Spew" and the AFL Commission and idea for the re-enactment of the first games of football with 40 a side. :P - just in time for the 150th anniversary next year.

I like that idea. Carlton win, it gets the top pick. Melbourne win, it gets that pick before round 2.

However, it's not all over if we WIN. After the game we can have Swanny leak some story to Essendon* that we were cheating the salary cap. News gets out to Demitri and we get points wiped out. End of story.

i find watching games with mates is always weird. especially when no one is wearing pants.

i reckon melbourne will try something shifty.

*EDIT*

i just thought of this then. this is a very dirty situation, we know that, they know it, the AFL knows it....the match should be made a dead rubber by the AFL. the result should only serve to set a draft order beyond our PP. no matter what the result we should be given our pre-draft PP, and the demons their post rnd 1 PP. the mere fact that the winning side loses considerably has to be rectified. a win for either club (especially us) would be disasterous.

Carlton 2012: Lets remind them why they once feared the Dark.

[quote="marciblue"]As dumb as Kouta was letting comments like that to be plastered over the hun (I’d prefer he shut-up!), I thought Garry Lyon’s statements last night on Classified were very interesting given his role at the club at present with the coaching sub-committee. He repeated the following statement a few times – “Believe me, the Melbourne football club will NOT be winning this Sundayâ€

It will be an absolute breach of the clubs duty to fans, coterie groups, sponsors if we win this week. I dont give a flying hat about the intrinsic desire of players to play to win, this week should be viewed as nothing more then a glorified practise match.
We didnt invent this system, the AFL did- its our turn to exploit it.

I expact Ratten to give a directive to the players before the game not to be concerned at all with this result- This is purely the fault of the AFL and Im sure the players can understand that.
