Oh can it get any better. Tiger win and we lose Pick 1, 2 and 17 + Pick 1 PSD!!

I hate these rules, but go Tigers and Demons!!

The Tigers can't beat the Saints. They'd be crazy to try to anyway...

You're NQR if you're happy to get the spoon because it gives us better draft picks in this year's pr draft. Screw the PP if it means we have to put up with the shame of another wooden spoon and have our name dragged through the mud again.

Exactly, by the same logic Richmond should consider this game 'meaningless'

but IIRC there is or was a rule that prevented clubs from de-listing players with a long term injury such as an ACL and didnt that player need to be on that clubs list the next year or his expenses and part of salary needed to be included in the salary cap for the next year - Can someone clarify
Im not revelling in campo going down it was always sad to see him go from Carlton as it will be with whitnall but if the bumbers have to keep some of his salary for next year the wisdom of the recruitment and $200 000 contract for him per year is extraordinary - particularly if they need to put an amount in the cap for him in 2008

Campo is out of contract. Only had a two year deal with Essendon*.

Understand that he had a 2 year contract but the measure I was talking about was for the players protection ie that if he got SEVERLY injured during a contractual year in a match the club could not just wash their hands of him after the contract expired as severe injuries such as an ACL may prevent the player getting an gainful employment for 12 months and him having no income and no ability to obtain an income if he had an ACL
I may be wrong but if it is a rule then you can bet campo is cognisant of it

Its not simply enough to say he had a two year contract and it expires in November you have been severely injured whilst being contracted but contract has run out so see you later

From AFL/AFLPA CBA 2003-2008 Schedule B:

Quote:

11. Injury Payments
11.1 (a) Where a Player:
(i) suffers a Final Year Injury; and
(ii) makes an application to the AFL for compensation in accordance
with this sub-paragraph,
the AFL Club shall pay that Player 50% of the Player’s contract base
payment as at the last year of the Contract

Furthermore, there is no mention of these payments being excluded from the Club's TPP in Section 11, "Total Player Payments", of the main agreement.

Frank is not often wrong, but he's right this time.

We don't want him back, do we? Then again, who would want him?!

Frank,

I think you may find that Campo was signed to a $400,000 a year 2 year contract with the Dons and IIRC a bit like the 5 year deal the Saints signed with Hamill ($450,00 per year in 2004) it was not a smart move.

What if the Tigers win & we draw with the Dees. We will lose the PP & get the spoon. We would be the laughing stock

Campo is a All Australian, Premiership player, 200+ game champion and those are the kind of bloke we need at our club taking games away from our kids. DO IT!

Agree with your logic, except for one thing...

Our last 2 PSD Pick 1s have been McLaren and Ackland...

This is probably the first year in quite a while that we'll be able to paint an attractive picture for a potential PSD recruit.

We were a basket case off-field, and as such could only entice the likes of Ackland into the PSD. But since then it's been:

Pratt, Swann, Icke, Ratts in... Smorgon, Malouf, Pagan... out.

Plus a clearly developing list, financial security and a fair bit of salary cap space. If we're ever a chance of snaring another Nick Stevens, it'd be this year.

But who's gonna be available??

I keep asking but no-one seems to know the answer.

Well, there'd probably be 120 players who've yet to re-sign for next year. Jamie Charman's one who's holding out.

Just on Charman... on the one hand, he's performed really well in the ruck for the Lions and he's only 25.

On the other hand... he's...

wait for it...

196cm

I reckon if you finish last and you're seen by the footballing community as a good destination, you'll flush out a decent player.
