How does this work?

Fevola 59
Fisher 39
Waite 27
Lappin 21
Whitnall 18
Betts 16
Simpson 16
O'hAilpin 13
Murphy 11

Yet we are second last.... :?

We haven't had a spread like that for many years.

On the other hand we have had our worst run of defensive scores in forever -- 20 games in a row of more than 100 points against.

It's one of the best goal kicking spreads I've seen since 1995, yet we are anchored at the bottom.

Thanks Verbs.
It's bad enough thinking about it - it's even worse seeing the figures!

The second half of the table is interesting.

Brisbane in their prime had five or sx midfileders who kicked 20+ a year. So we need more.

But it all adds up for us to be quite good but...???

Just looking at my 95 spreadsheet:

Kernahan 63
Pearce 52
Spalding 34
Clape 31
Williams 29
Koutoufides 22
Rice 21
Hanna 14
Brown 13
Bradley 12
Ratten 12
Camporeale 11

We'renot even half-way there.But I don't know if we have a better spread since 1995. Maybe in 99/00.

That's the only thing I don't like about our current group of young midfielders - they aren't really goal kickers.
Hopefully they will get a few on the board once their experience and confidence grows, but at the moment, simmo is really the only goal-kicker amongst them.

That's also the reason why I would love to see Palmer picked up in the draft.

IIRC in 2000 we had 16 players with 10 goals or more.

Our spread of goalkickers this year is not that much different to the last few years.

Still a long way to go (especially when you take out Lappin and Whitnall).

Like you already mentioned Verbs our problems lie in the defence! In the last 5 years the dark lord has developed one regular defender.

More goals from midfield. And more goals from smaller forwards. That's where we really struggle compared with the other sides. I'm guessing that our percentage of goals from tall forwards would be considerably higher than any other clubs.

We really need a couple of classy half forward goalkickers.

Which basically tells you that if we get the back half right with a better ruck division the turnaround can come pretty quick.

ruckmen should kick 15-20 goals per year IMO..cox, lade, ottens, fraser, white would be very close to this mark...

I think our spread is better than it has been for the past few years, without going to deeply into it.

The guy on the right obviously went too deeply.
Looks like he broke his arm in the process.
