i know we got pumped but surely we can find some positives...

i'll get the ball rolling with:
adam bentick proving he's in our best 22
jarrad waite making his mark as an A grade footballer
andrew walker's continued improvement despite injuries
jacko showing continued improvement
lance whitnall increasing his trade value

Our ten goal plus loss ratio has moved from once every four weeks to once every five weeks.

Whitnall was just awful - the saddest game of his career...

Four more quarters to go until the true rebuild can begin.

I'll start with a negative in that our forward line was impotent today but given the youth of the team there were promising patches throughout the game. I think Kennedy showed positive signs and I am still confident that we can turn things around fairly quickly.

Let's face it, the boys have nothing to play for and the intensity wasn't there against a very good roos side

Quite simply there was no positives as far as our play was.

The only positive is if we lose next week we will have picks 1 and 3

Today showed me just how far behind we are

Grigg's pass to Santy and goal in the first quarter.

The news that Lappo and Houla were out for emergencies was greeted with much relief by the faithful, who were able to sit back, relax and enjoy the tank. Gday to the bluebaggers sitting behind me in aisle 10 if you're reading - funny blokes.

PROS

1. Bower - starting to fit in

2. Jackson - looks like he may have a future

3. Waite - played well and showed a bit of leadership

4. The PP must surely be coming and team selection was correct

5. I was happy that Kennedy took a few contested grabs even though he didn;t do much. Still seems to be ignored on leads.

CONS

1. Walker - way out of sorts. I reckon he was playing B+F football in the first 6-7 rounds, but he's been off the boil the last 2 weeks. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

2. Poor disposal - with the high possession game plan we'll really have to hone our kicking. Recruiters should have a policy - "If they can;t kick, don't pick"

3. Placement of Russel on Harvey and wells - we've seen him play his best footy as a lead up half forward and he started well today in that role. Then, for some reason, he was moved into the run-with role that has brought him minimal success.

4. Melbourne are getting flogged as we speak - next week will be hard to lose, but we must - I repeat, MUST - lose.

5. Lack of intensity - couldn't buy a clearance in the 1st half. Glenn Archer said after the game that he had to 'wake himself up out there'. Can happen after many honourable losses.

Human beings have historically justified suffering by giving it some meaning. Our suffering over the last two years is only bearable if it delivers a PP next week. If we beat Melbourne I will have a broken heart, the club cannot let it happen.

We aren't far behind. Today is an illusion, when you go in 50% effort your always going to get smased and look flat. As long as the boys realise what is best for the club next week and play half assed again I'll be happy.

I like Ryan Jackson. I think he has the talents to be a definite star footballer.

Needs more time on the ground. Nearly always makes the right decision.

Oh, and I also liked the look of Bower. Plays with spirit.

We need a tackling coach. That is for sure. I am sick of seeing players hang back from tackling the opposition - trying to "corral them" and then let them get their possession away. Attack the bloke with the ball.. oh sorry.. i am writing this in the positives page.

Ok, it will be a positive when we can get a tackling coach next year.

Kennedy - espeically early presenting

Jammo

Hammo

Grigg

Bower

Bentick

Tex

Murph

Gibbs

Russell

Betts

Santy

Waite

I was happy with the kids today

fair dinkum you lot

You can't have the medi etc go on about - 'ohh the picks the picks' and not expect the team's morale to drop

and that set up for the start was insurance if you ask me

and 10 21 year olds

and what, you want a team to orchestrate 5 point losses?

I reckon next year we'll scare the shit out of some sides.

Add T-Bird
Stevo
Cloke
Aisake
Houla
Fev
and whoever we pick up over summer into that team
and a preseason for the kids

and for Ratts

I am happy

Pros
All the kids getting a run and while were belted they were just out bodied and ran out of legs.
Bower, Jamo, JK and Griggs were ok and will be ok.
Just one game away from Picks 1 and 3.

Cons
Skill errors
Lance is gone (or is that a pro)
Carrots disposal - heart in mouth stuff, we need Stevo back in there!
JR - jury is still out. Maybe he is being played out of position and maybe it is too much to expect a kid to impose himself on more than a couple of contests in a game.. maybe...
I hate CFC losing!

Pros - Jackson and Bower.

Cons- Ackland is arguably the worst ruckman I have ever seen wear the navy blue. He has no leg speed either, just drifts around. I guess at least he put his body on the line a couple of times to take some "contested" marks... but gee he needs to improve a lot in tap rucking.

Does anybody know whats happened to Murphy?

He just seems to go missing quite a bit now and when he does get the ball he is under pressure and does something silly with it.

Is he injured?

Same goes for Gibbs

I think Gibbs has been played in the back pocket too long. As long as he gets time away from defence he should be ok.

He shouldn't be a tagger either. That is a waste of a talent. But he'll learn they say... nup. don't agree. no tagging, no back pocket.

Half forward flank/interchange/midfield.

They just both continue to get targeted and don't have the time to show the poise they're used to. Once Stevens comes back we might be able to get some muscle in the middle to help these kids out who are getting bashed each week.

The main positive is that the our young players were reminded that it is a team game and that less than 100% effort will get you smashed every time. A good lesson on what hard running is all about.

Hampson had his first taste.

Jamison persisted.

Bentick won a lot of contested ball.

Walker showed he hates making mistakes or bad decisions.

10 players under 21 in the team with less than 34 games.
