Thought this article in the hun was quite interesting in the complete change of Game plan

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/ ... 62,00.html

In 2007 Blues under 16 games with DP 16th in the competition in total kicks and 15th in Marks - The 4 matches under Ratten we have become 1st for total kicks and marks. Not easy to implement with 4 games a total change in how the Blues play

But judging by the players they look like they are enjoying playing a lot more under Ratten

Quote:
Players, including Brendan Fevola, have spoken freely about the enjoyment of getting their hands on the footy more often in a high-possession style game.

When you've got it, the opposition hasn't. Naturally, that makes it more difficult for the opposition to kick bags of goals against you

Be very interesting how we run out in 2008 when Ratten has had a chance to fully prepare the game plan.

And for the Tanking theorists we either have the Blues playing really high possesion taxing play for 3.5 quarters and dropping off in the last 10 due to being tired or we are competative with all the teams we have played in the last 4 weeks and dropped off in intensity in last 10 minites of the game.

In last 10 minutes of the game in last 3 games we have not kicked a goal.

Anyway as the article finishes off

Quote:
It is a staggering drop-off that only fuels suggestions. But the smart Carlton fans couldn't be happier.

They're watching their boys win plenty of it, show fight and ultimately lose.

Just imagine what he can do when he wants them to win

it was quoted in one of yesterdays papers that Ratts said some players went a little overboard with the keeping possession game plan.

Also, have now heard from 2 people ratts wants Luke Darcy as an assistant in 2008.

Interesting indeed re the last quarter stats. Could it be that when the pressure is on in those last 10-15 mins, that we revert to the Pagan plan, at least partially ?

Fatigue tends to cloud judgement and thought processes, and it may take a while to erase Pagan's game plan entirely from some players minds.

Am I talking crap ?? :?

Said the same thing after last weeks game. Ratts has only had 4 weeks with these guys, will take a little longer to get his gameplan etched in. When the pressure is on, they are still reverting to bombing it long into the forward line to contests - instead of sharing it around and waiting for the option like in the first 3 quarters.

Darc comes across well in the media. Doesn't mean he can coach but impressive insights and the way he handles himself. Hey, maybe he could ruck for us as well ...

I don't think so .. I reckon DP's presence alone makes a difference (ergo our result on the weekend) .. We should be back in the game next year, especially with our early draft picks on board!

I agree that DP's influence can be seen in our last qtr efforts. It'll take a while to remove the "when in doubt, bomb it long" stigma from the team, as well as the their inability to bring in an effective plan B or C when things in the game change. Give Ratts time and he'll iron these things out.
