Was listening to MMM yesterday on the Radio whilst ferrying the tribe across to the in-laws. They had Akermanis on and were getting him to admit that Brisbane's year was over and that they couldnt make the finals etc. They started the obvious run through of the list speculating that some of the players might not hang tight and might now go looking for some $$$ before the knees give out etc.

The player most seemd to rate most highly etc was Luke Power. Aker said he was loyal and would hang tight (what else could he say?). Quartermain piped in and said that it was well known that CARLTON had offered him $500k pa over 5 years with the captaincy thrown in.

WHAT THE!!!!

Anybody else heard of this one?? have I been under a rock or something??

That was the talk a couple of years ago. That was a pretty dated offer.

I'd offer him the same again, except not the captaincy! And maybe not $500k for 5 years!

$400k per/year for 3 years!

But i could see him staying put.

There will be plenty of room in our Salary Cap next season - so Power's management WILL be sniffing out any potential offers.

Guess you're not offering him the same then :D

As for MMM getting Aker to admit Brisbane's season was over...you don't get Aker to admit anything. He's pretty open and honest, I don't think he says anything he doesn't want to say.

Read somewhere that if Power was to return to Melbourne, he'd like to play with his brother at the Bullies. Not sure they could offer him $500K, but maybe they could entice him with brotherly love, a can of coke & a mars bar?

Offer the Dogs something for Sam Power and then offer Brisbane Whitnall and something for Power.

All pie in the sky stuff though.

They could give us Sam a 4th round pick and player and we'll give Luke $500k :D

Power was about 3rd in line. Yze was the one they were after big time...

I think it was the same year that Nathan Brown was 'chased' as well.

You know on Friday night I was sitting there thinking that, gee, maybe it would've been good to get Brown (I've never really been a fan but it really does seem as they he was really leading the way at Richmond and was a really powerful influence around the club and, more particularly, on the ground) and seriously 90 seconds later I was almost throwing up watching the vision of his leg going off at right angles.

I love Luke Power: he's a consistent ball winner and always performs in big matches. He's just not the player we need right now. If we were to recruit anyone they would have to have a big body.

We can offer $500k easily.

We just won't back it up.

Harvey from Roos, Yze , Power. we may have sniffed around but I believe it was their managers that made up the figures and stories, esp Yze and Harvey.
