Happy about Ratts. Surprised he got 2 years. If he was the perfect man, 3 for ateam who is 2nd last gives him time to build the team.

With regard to assistants, Swann made it clear the club will choose the assistant coaches but they wouldnt employ someone that Brett didnt want. To paraphrase "Its not a case of Brett bringing 5 cronies to the coaching team"

Paul Roos has made it clear he wanst to stay at Sydney in a supervising type role, probabl for someone like Horse to coach

On the Couch tonight, Gerard Healy said that Ratts' deal is 2 years with an option for a 3rd year. I guess we'll read more about that tomorrow.

Oh... he also said that Nathan Thompson will probably 'neck himself'... that a woman he assaulted should 'get bigger tits'... and that Kelly Stevens should spend 10 minutes in the toilet with him.

Personally, I wouldn't listen to a thing that turd has to say.

Go Ratts!

Pretty much everything Carey has said so far this year has turned out to be completely wrong and has come back to bite him....let's hope he keeps that up!

I haven't read all the posts so forgive me if I repeat something somebody already said.
I think 2 years is a good idea because we will get the chance to see what he can do with the list without putting the club at risk financially if we have to sack him or if he isn't what we need. In two years we will know and if he is indeed the real deal, we will re-sign him then. Ratts will get more money at that point so will be happy and we will know for sure we have a coach on our hands. In short, the ball is in Ratt's court.
It also indicates to me that the MC believe we have a genuine chance to improve a lot in two years and that they believe in the list. That must encourage the players and coaches no end.
I think today marks a waypoint in our sorry recent history.
Go Ratts.
My 2008 membership is waiting to be bought already.

As the person who made comments about the process a couple of pages back, can I just say that none of that matters anymore.

Congratulations Ratts - may your reign as head coach be long and successful.

Congratulations Ratts. I did want Paul Roos but maybe you can emulate and surpass Roos' achievements. Chatting to some of the players at Kouta's testimonial, I get the feeling they will play for him. Funny I thought of Blueman 8)

Good luck Ratts. Hopefully you'll be as good a coach as you are a bloke. You'll make some mistakes along the way but the trick is to learn from them.

I seriously do not know why people employ this goose. He hasn't got anything constructive to say!

Good stuff Ratts!

Who would have looked at the 95 Premiership side and thought you were the guy that would end up coaching our beloved Blues? I would have had probably Williams, Peter Dean, Braddles, and Sexton ahead of you at the time. That doesn't matter though... I am really pleased that you are the guy from that side who gets a chance to coach us, and know that you will put some pride back into that famous old guernsey for us.

On a separate matter, I am now happy to run a book on the timing of the first TC poster to call for Ratten's head. The market looks as follows:

After the Kangaroos game: 1000-1
After the Melbourne game: 25-1
After trade week: 10-1
After re-signing Lance: Evens
After re-signing Fev: Evens
After the first training session 5-1
After the draft: 5-1
After the first five weeks of season 2008: 2-1

:-D :-D :-D

Good Luck to Ratten.

As I have said before he has just been handed the winning lottery ticket, all he needs to do now is make sure he works out where and how to cash it in.

Ratten is a very lucky man getting the job at carlton at this time- for the fact

we have a stable board
we have money to spend on the footy dept
we have a CEO with proper football experience
we have a list manager
our recruiting dept is going to expand
we are about to set up a 'football academy'
our alliance with the bullants will be no longer and we will be able to develop our kids in the way that is best for carlton
we have a bunch of talented kids with a lot of POTENTIAL (i hate that word)
we are on an upward curve- w can't get much worse

we have a trail of mistakes which we have hopefully learnt from and will never be repeated at the Carlton Football Club.

ratten has stepped in at the right time, BUT there is still plenty of hard work to be done by all at the club. The past 4 weeks have confirmed we are still a fair way off being competitive over 22 weeks of a season.

He continues to be the quiet achiever then. Just going about his work, getting the job done.

I'll have one (or more) premiership around 2010-2015 please Mr Ratten.
