Brett Ratten is one hell of a nice guy,but if he lets the old champs meddle in his coaching tenure,he will go the same as that similar nice person in Peter Schwabb.That is,arse up.

I think you're reading too much into the comments DrSherrin.

All roads point to Brett Ratten. Swann also said last weekend, we have a few details to iron out. Bond hasnt made a presentation yet. If the board is undecided on Monday, they'll ask him to do one. Ratten is almost over the line.

if the club want to help ratten or whoever the senior coach is, they should allow the senior coach to assemble his own team.
they should allow the senior coach to come up with his own plan for success and the club should back the senior coach to the hilt.

no interfereing, like we have in the past, no undermining, no jobs for mates.

For the last 6 seasons we have said the senior coach is ultimatly accountable for the teams performance (rightly or wrongly), so let's give the senior coach our full backing.

if things go well, we can pat him on the back and give him all the credit he deserves

if things don't go well, we can at least say we gave him our full support, things did not work, lets move on.

rather than having to put up with all the crap we have in the last 6 seasons.

the club obviously need to support the senior coach's plan but if they need someone to sit over the senior coach's shoulder, then IMO they have pick the wrong man for ther senior coach's role.

Who is to say that having someone like a Connoly is not Ratten's choice and that the club have imposed it on him? Until we get full details, we just don't know.

One thing I have said before, and I will say it again is that when Mark, Stephen, and Zac came on here about a month ago, they emphasised time and again in their responses that their major priority was to sort out the football department. The way they were talking, I think they have examined all possible proposals for setting up a department that will carry this club a long way forward. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if we moved away from a model where the head coach calls 90 per cent of the shots... to a system which is far more broad-based and less reliant on any one individual. If a Connolly or someone like that were to come in, then maybe it would be with more specific objectives than just 'sitting on ratten's shoulder'.

We'll have to wait and see....

How much blame should he accept for Freo's appalling tribunal record this year? And, then, there's the matter of their shocking underperformance over the past few years. They're been nothing but pretty boy pretenders with Connolly at the helm. There may be other issues at the club equally as responsible for this as the coach, but I get the feeling that Harvey won't stand for some of the petulant on field rubbish the players got away with under Connolloy's watch.

Sorry, not impressed with him at all. Admiteddly an opinion formed from the couch of the cameldome, but, yeah, nah. Good sense of humour, that's probably about it.

I agree with Clem and think that Connolly would fit in nicely on the development side of things.

I was giving you an out by saying that and acknowledging that I'm not in position to know all the issues at Freo.

From where I sit though, Connolly is nothing special at all. If suggestions of his appointment is a directive of Ratten's then fair cop. But if we're putting someone like Connolly in as watchdog, I reckon that has disaster written all over it.

The guy can't coach and with the list he had at his disposal at Fremantle the results back that up. Is that straightforward enough for you. :-D

Haha, not hot and bothered, just making sure you know where I stand on Connolly.

I am, I must admit, a bit of a fence sitter at the best of times, but I reckon Connolly should have done better than he has with that list.

So do I camel......and discipline on and off the field has been pretty lax at Freo under his tenure IMO.

Very happy
Seems a very likeable person and I think was a pretty good coach.

He sounded pretty composed to me - was just saying what he thought of Connolly, and asking why you thought he'd be such a good addition. Personally, I think he's a good people person and would be good with handling the players, though I'm not sure if he's that good a tactician.

I agree about Connolly. He was the exact opposite of Pagan, but just as ineffective. Trying too hard to be the players' mate rather than being a COACH.

I agree that with his sense of humour and likeable attitude he would be good in a development role, making the young kids fele at home around the club, and would be well-liked by the playing group. But if you let your players walk all over you then you won't gain their respect. The behaviour of the Freo players, and the soft-cock approach taken to disciplining them (I thought Farmer was on his last chance LAST TIME) is an indictment on him.

I don't know; but when I look at Connolly; he looks like he hasn't started to shave yet.....the opposite of Mark Harvey who is and was ferocious as a player.

I agree Josh,

The only point I have to make that if either Ratten or Bond are appointed they are given full control of who they appoint as their assistants and in what role. Hopefully Sticks, Gleeson etc won't interfere.

If we back a coach back them ALL the way!!!

A great Carlton player, hopefully he will be the man to lead us out of this dark period.
