Nah, not at all Rhys but hopefully there is a bigger agenda.
I'm hoping like hell that Whitnall will showcase his slim frame and we will get a decent pick for him before old habits kick in.

Hey, I can only dream!

What, trade him for Cuddles?! Or what about trading him, McLaren, and Teague for Pav?!

Does this mean Kaptain Kade gets relegated again? (I think I asked this question elsewhere …)

With respect to Swanny, he's CEO, not coach or football manager.
Doesn’t he have a say in what’s happening on field as well as off, or am I thinking of Graham Kennedy’s part in The Club?

Hoops and Skinny seem to be on the bench and / or injury list .. play Lance instead of one of them, if you really have to. Personally I would rather see one of these two on before him

Isn’t this what happened in 2005? He slimmed down for the Who Cares Cup and then appears to have beefed back up again. Sounds more like Oprah Winfrey or Kirsty Alley than a football player!

BV,

I'm a bit sceptical, I think there is still a lot of mateship going on at Carlton and I wouldn't be surprised if they signed up the undisciplined Whitnall for another season.
While Kernahan is around in a decision making capacity expect the worst.

If lance does play this weekend, I don't think he has got the tank to play out the whole game meaning we will be a player short as he warms the pine. Maybe that the ploy.

As for Lance losing 6kgs, all I want to know is how did the fitness coach and club allow it to happen in the first place. If lance needs to be weighed every 2 days to keep him on track then let it be. If lance is injured and cannot run because of his knee, then a special diet is in order and plenty of laps in the pool.

Matty Lappin made the comment early 2005 about Lance when everybody was praising him for losing weight, running around in the park with tyres behind him, his comments along the lines of "Don't praise Lance for getting his body where it needs to be to play AFL football, its something he should have been doing anyway". That comment pretty much sums up it for me.

Was this at about the same time as Matty was dropped from the side that year?!

This was during the wiz cup, and I don't think Skinny got dropped for being overweight.

..the Lance is definately playing for his career, i think he's only chance of actually impressing is if he's played as a deep, goal-square hugging FF.. ..especially now with the softer intepretations towards hands in the back.. ..and have Fev run and prowl and F50 old school CHF style..

For those who watch the boys train in the mornings, have you seen where they get their post training Smoko? From the @#$%&! take away shop across the road on Royal Parade. No wonder pricks who are prone to putting on weight (like Lance) struggle to keep it off. Why doesn't the club cook their meals after each session? Rather than them eating Tradies lunches.

Take away shop? Tradies lunches? That description surprises me.

I think the cafe they eat at is a ripper.

Terrific rolls and sandwiches...and the hot food is good enough to eat! They make a mean coffee too.

These boys do need to eat substantial meals. Obviously the older they get the more care they have to take...but most of them could eat the cafe out of a full lunch service and work it off in the afternoon session.

If they were eating their lunches at the hell-hole that is my local caff I'd be worried...but not this place.

Perhaps when PP is the equivalent of the Lexus centre....or hopefully better  , then maybe the club can seriously look at providing meals as well. At the moment I'd be surprised if they can boil a cup of water.*

*might resemble sarcasm, but more likely to be serious.

The Game has never passed Lance, plz answer me one honest Question

When was the last time Lance played a shocker when he played a full game at FF or deep in the forward line?

Our pathetic list and previous coaches have butchered lance by playing him in Key Defensive roles just becuase of his height....

He spent 2 years playing loose in defence under Pagan, and that was pure Nonsense......

When he playes where he is supposed to play, he is still better than half of the competition forwards.....

How often has he played along side Fev in the last 5 years??

Lance played a game against hawthorn last year where Croad kicked 5 goals on him in 20 mintues, then he moved forward and was still our best on ground with 4 goals and 12 marks.....

he will be such a good Value for our side next year if he is played in the right position and if his knee holds up....

Geez some of our supporters have no loyalty what so ever and no respect for a guy who gave so much to this footy Club.... So sad to see

Didnt we field the youngest Carlton team for 37 years against Collingwood?
Did'nt we then field a younger team again playing Port?
If thats not playing the kids, what is?

I must admit, I didnt hear Ratts say he'd play a new player every week. I heard Swann make that statement.
With respect to Swanny, he's CEO, not coach or football manager.

But he'd love to be. One of the reasons he left the Pies was to get his hands dirty in footy matters again.

I thought I'd heard his role explained as 'hands on' therefore that would mean getting it dirty with football matters wouldn't it?
Then we got Icke.
Then between the 2 of them they couldn't sort out the Mitchell dilemma - Anyone else hear Fev talk about that issue last night? Dropped Players not knowing the coach of the 2nds. Good for Team Building!!

Now Mitch's back
Swann's talkin on all things Coaching
Icke is no where to be seen
Team's doin ok
Ratts is doing well
Sticks - see comments about Icke.

Things are lookin up!!

He cant run out a full game anymore

All 22 players have to run

If you cant run, you cant play

I have loyalty, but isnt it amazing that a guy's career is on the line and hey presto he loses the weight.

This has happened before

The guy is lazy

His time along with a few others is up

The fairest thing to do is to give him a chance in the remaining games this season.

But, if he fails and we happen to lose against Essendon*, then maybe he needs another last couple of opportunities against North and then the Demons.

Being fit and playing at his best I would love to see Lance playing as a loose man inside the forward 50.

Surely at 27 he is in his prime?

If we keep hime next year it should be on match payments only.

It still really bugs me though that the year he gets the captaincy he is not in tip top condition. Is this a sign of the culture of the club or Lance or both?

I'd love to see him as a loose man inside forward 50 too, unfortunately I think the other team might have something to say about that.

There is no doubt that Lance can win the ball and contribute in the forward line.
The problem is he has zero defensive skills the moment he steps forward of the centreline. When he plays up forward, our midfield and backline suffers the consequences of his unwillingness to chase or apply any defensive pressure whatsoever.

Have a look at how many goals are scored from defensive rebounds in modern footy. Teams are more than happy to concede points because the resultant set plays give them an excellent chance to enter 50 on the rebound.
Having Lance refusing to chase as usual just amplifies the problem.

I suspect that is half the reason he is played back. To stop him being such a passive contributor when the opposition have the ball and to force him to extend his defensive skills.
