As much as I respect Macca for the great player and Carlton man he is, I think it says a lot for the state of the scum's board that they turn to a vet to find themselves a coach. What, that can't decide between a terrier and a labrador??

On AW just before, Ratts' and Chris Bond's manager Ricky Nixon hinted that Ratts has got the job at Carlton. Cant trust these manager types though.

Swann all but said as much during his interview during the half time break on Ten, too - sounds all but done, really, and without naming names, admitted that there are just a few matters to work through (remuneration etc) before an announcement is made.

I think we should appoint Ratten for three years. Make the announcement this week.

I like the idea of a Andy McKay being asked to select the new coach for Essendon*.

Means he can have a hand in picking Guy McKenna or another dud coach and send Essendon* further down the ladder.

You're wrong about Bluey Phoenix.... But Rats is still own man.

I posted this in the Voss will not coach in 2008 thread, bit about the assistants towards the end...

camelboy wrote:
Time will tell if Carlton, and indeed any of the clubs currently looking for a senior coach, rue the one that got away. Whether he was ever over the line at Carlton or not will continue to be speculation also. Maybe Voss just bottled it as the reality of coaching drew closer???

I dare say those prone to a flutter of two will find it hard to find a bookie willing to take bets on Ratten getting the job for 2008. He must be a dead certainty now you'd reckon.

Will be interesting to see what Ratten's thoughts on an assistant coaching panel would be and how much he would like to change our current set up.

Glen Archer/Ben Hart type for defensive coach.
Paul Williams/Josh Francou/Rohan Smith type for mids.
Chris Grant/Alastair Lynch type for forwards.
Braddles to provide fitness and mentoring roles.

All names plucked out of the air, but will be interesting to see who stays out of the current coaches.

I posted this in 2001:

Quote:
Parkin will hand over the coaching job to Brittain soon. A much older coach will steal Brittain's job but will fail miserably. Some time in the future a much younger coach will take over the reigns from the older coach and will coach Carlton. He will coach Carlton.

And then Faser Brown's mum will coach Carlton, to three premierships. A three peat...the first back-to-back-to-back since the 1950s.

Will be very suprised if Brett is not appointed coach on a two to three year deal for somewhere around 350- 450k

I'd give Ratts a 2 year deal with an extra year if certain 'development' KPI's are met.
There's plenty of good young coaches around so if Ratts can't get us moving in the first 2 years we aren't lock in long term.
