Mots epitomises the depth of the saying

his humor and warmth is a credit to him and his family.

I too find the resemblence between Gibbs and Mots scarey. If you ever get the chance to watch the State of Origin 1984 game between SA and Vics - Mots played one of the best games anyone's ever played. I struggle to think of Peter as a 42 year old - my image of him will always be as the young guy who was a favourite with the ladies and a big favourite of mine as a 13 year old. I was in awe of Mots and remember a day at training Ken Hunter calling him 'Hollywood' - instead of the cry of 'Mots' that he normally got...when you think of Mots - 1987 doesn't really seem all that long ago.

Someone give him a job by the way...bloody hell...

That's a great interview and Peter definately sounds better than the last time I heard him interviewed. The interview is a credit to the whole family and it really puts some of the silly arguments in here into perspective.

I would love to see the club make Peter the number 1 ticket holder as Sturt has done. As the club becomes more prosperous, I wonder if a sponsorship of road trauma victims is possible. Something like a Peter Motley foundation and give members the option of paying an extra $10 on their membership and have it donated to the foundation. Even if only 10,000 members ticked the box and agreed it might still provide some help to other families in similar situations.

I got was fortunate enough to hear Mots speak at the guernsey presentation at the start of 05. Russell and Hartlett had just been drafted, so they brought Mots over to present JR with his jumper.

The speech he made that night was absolutely sensational and I'm sure brought a tear to the eyes of those who were old enough to remember him back when he was playing.

As one official said to me that night...

"Everyone says Laurie Angwin was a tragedy at the Carlton Footy Club, but Peter Motley was the biggest tragedy of them all"

Just listening to this now.

Nice anecdote about John Elliott.

Just hearing that piece for him asking for a job and his last line "give me a go, and of course, I need the dough"...

I know we've missed the boat somewhat, but this year is 20 years since his accident. What do you reckon we pass the hat around and see what we can rustle up for him???

If only he still lived in Melbourne, I'd be able to help him out as I work for an Employment Agency that helps people with disabilities find work.. Good Luck to him anyway. Really hope to see him round the Carlton Footy Club more in years to come.

That was a disaster for Peter and Carlton.
He was a magnificent footballer. Still remember his high marking.

The Blueseum article says that it was a head on crash.
My memory is that he was sitting at the lights, with Paul Meldrum beside him in another car.
The car that hit him ran into a tram stop staunction. It went up into the air, and landed on top of Peters car.
A long time ago, but I think that is how it happend.
If that was how it actually happend, he was the unluckiest bloke around.

"Mots and Dessie" became the rally cry for the boys in '87 and Peter Dean is famous for his "Motts and Dessie you f***ing beauty" when accepting his GF medal

Peter Dean made Premiership Medal presentations an artform. I think from 1987 onwards they turned the microphones off as the players came to accept their medallions and in 1995 Peter Dean fell off the platform as he tried to jump over the bar.

But Peter Motley was a true gentleman - and I always wonder how many more flags we would have won with Motley on one half back flank and Peter Dean on the other.

True, it is one of Carltons greatest Tradgerdies. What makes it worse, I went to the school with the kid that caused the accident and incidently he was a Carlton supporter.
