Jeez, KKK, your dad must have been a lot stronger than mine

I agree with him.

But how can you have the 'moments' without the champions? :?

Champions don't have to come from a PP. Don't be so ignorant. Look at our 2 best players yesterday...

Fev (Pick 38)
Carrots (Rookie)

Thank you Michael Jackson... "Your just ignorant!".

Who mentioned the PP...? 8)

Anyway, to mention Fev as a low pick is to ignore the fact that he was picked up when teams could only select one 17 Y/O in the draft making him a tactical selection which we do not have the luxury of being able to repeat. Don't get me wrong, I'd give up two first round selections each year (providing we had them) for the world’s most infallible recruiter but we don't have him at this stage, nor does any side.

Fev was selected low because thats where other clubs rated him. Too many clubs felt he was a risky selection given he was one dimensional and didn't like to run or chase and had a limited aerobic capacity. He admited as much in interviews around that time. Not many expected him to turn out like he has. There will be similar types in every draft.

Great post Danny.

The Melbourne game in Rd 22 will be a memorable occasion for me if we lose and end up with Kreuser and pick#3.

Yes, Fev has flaws, most players do but there is an argument to suggest that his strengths counterbalance many of his flaws. You have no evidence, nytdog, to prove that Fev would not have gone at least a little higher in the draft had seventeen year olds been open slather. Adam Goodes is another example but, in his case, I'm sure he would have gone a lot higher. Anyway, where a player is 'rated' before the draft is irrelevant. If every club's recruiting managers are created equal as is 'kosher' to believe then it comes down to how well a club is placed in the draft. It is simple mathematics.

Great post.

I'm another who lost my dad early in my life. Both he and my Grandpa promised to take me to a Carlton game (we didn't live near Melbourne so not easy to do). Unforntunately they both died before they got the chance to take me . Dad died in late 1990 - we reckon Collingwood winning the flag killed him  My Grandpa died in 94 aged 95 and having lived through every one of our flags except our last. They both taught me so much about the game and what it is to be a Carlton supporter :-D

I now wear my dads old knitted carlton jumper to every match. The St Kilda game last week apart from being Ratten's 1st as coach was not particularly meaningful. However it was for me as not only was it my birthday 8) but it was the 1st time we took our children to a game. I think I will always remember that game and the image of breastfeeding my son at half time in our 'silver' seat is etched in my memory
