Carlton have rarely in recent history given their acknowledged champions a "send off" game.

Kernahan, Williams, Ratts, Bradley and even SOS all played their last games for the club - with us the fans/members not knowing those games were to be their last.

You can give these legends tributes in many ways - without having to play and win one of these "do it for the Gipper" type games.

As usual we the usual myopia from the flag wavers around here begging for meaningless wins.

The football landscape has changed "we are no longer in the railway business" - "we are in the transportation business" - so my Wall Street gurus do a little light reading and bring yourselves into the 21st Century.

Just to satisfy the "do it for the Gipper brigade" around here - I hope there is an AFL investigation prior to this years draft and we get convicted of deliberate tanking and we are suspended from the first 4 rounds of the National Draft for the next 4 years - because with clever scouting, recruiting and trading - we apparently only need picks 60 onwards - because there are so many jewels slipping through, and our player development programs will do the rest.

And yes Id take winning against the pies / bombers over 1 pick which may or may not amount to anything.

More Russells less Murphys and Gibbs... in your mind thats what we need to be a better team...

The ten wins we has the year we drafted Russell..that gave us that willing feeling...excitement... and the Russell reward over say what Hawthorn had to cop with that year...

On one hand 10 wins...and Russell...
OR priority pick... Franklin and Roughead...???

Hey tell me about those ten wins we had.... how do they make you feel today???.... can you still remember them???
do you still have that winners feeling???

Do you puff your chest out and have bragging rights????

But Synbad we were never even close to a Priority Pick that year! We won 10 games for heaven's sake, it's not like we missed the PP by one game like we could still do this season. We'd passed the PP threshold by halfway through the season. Also, very few people at the time were upset with those 10 wins. In fact, most people were ecstatic and who are you or anyone to tell them that they shouldn't have been thrilled with 10 wins, something which at the time appeared real progress when you consider we'd won 7 games over the previous two seasons. It's very easy in hindsight eh?

I also love the way people refer to the round 22 game against Collingwood at the MCG. The implication is that that match itself set us back! Laughable! So it cost us a spot in the draft, we got pick 9 instead of pick 8 or whatever. I bet everyone was sitting at the MCG that night praying that we'd lose that match .

We may not have been close to a priority/high pick by the end of the year in 2004, but at the half-way mark of the season we were 4 and 7. We actually won 3 out of the last 4, (or 4 out of the last 7 if you like) games to finish on 10 and 12. In 2004 5 wins and under guaranteed a priority pick, not 4 and under two seasons running as it is today. While I agree that we would have been likely to miss out on a priority pick that year anyway, those wins were in “junk timeâ€

All the more reason to smack their arses!! They don't belong in the 8 and I'd love to be the team that sends them out. Have you people forgotten what it is to hate and beat collingwood?

Every week I turn on the TV, radio or go to the game wanting to win desperately. If we get smashed I'm shattered, if we come close I'm pleased for the improvement but if we win I'm wrapped.

5 more losses gives us the priority - that's a silver lining, not the plan.

The plan has already been shattered so what’s the odds, there will be other times (as long we dont get trashed) when we can get back of beating the likes of Essendon* and Collingwood, besides what is going to hurt them most beating them in a home and away game or win a premiership with the the extra talent that we may pick with a priority pick.

when did the worth of football become measured in premierships?

Is every season I have seen Carlton except the priemership ones meaningless now?

are only the games we won woth anything, and only if they led to the flag?

It seems economic rationalism (rather than socialism) has us by the short and curlies.

Sounds like a typical Collingwood phrase that one mate.

Yeah, cheers Synbad, we all know who you'll be rootin' for.

Put a few dollars on the Pies did you, to win a few cents?

I've got my $100 on the Blues thanks, and the $700 will top up nicely the $3000 I collected when I backed them to win the Wiz Cup at 30:1. Think that may have been a 16 horse race at the time.

Lost a few bets on them since, and won a few too.

If the boys lose, don't care, as long as they go down fightin'.

One thing is for sure, and that is I will NEVER hope the Colliwobbles beat Carlton, not EVER.

Guess that means we've had about 90-odd unsuccessful years in our history then

so bloody dramatic... And what if we do win another (meaningless) game this year? Are we banished to hell for the rest of eternity?

Apparently it'll be the death of the club as we know it. Because after all, the individual is bigger than the club.

To be honest part of me will chuckle if we get Kreuzer and he turns out to be a dud.

If we win, we win and we get #4. It will be a great win and we will all love it, because PP or no PP, it is always great to beat Collingwood.

If we lose but have a good crack, we lose. We will be satisfied that they are young and they had a crack and we get (probably) #1 & #3 and if we get those, come the draft we will all be happy.

If we get thrashed by 100 points we will be devastated. We will get (probably) #1 & #3 and if we get those, come the draft we will all be happy.

The bottom line is, we will take what we get like we always have and we will all wait with bated breath for six months to see where we are headed for in 2008 like we always have.

It has ever been thus.

It's just that some years are much better than others. We have several of those years just around the corner.

I have always believed that the squad will develop more by playing in meaningful games where we win.

However, last Saturday was a meaningful game, and we still just fell short. I hate this feeling about our games where I want us to win but I don't as well.

Having Pick 1 and 3 or 4 does so many things.

We get Pick 1, Richmond don't.

We can use Pick 1 and have the option (not that we necessarily would) of trading Pick 3 for a big name player, or it puts us in a better bargaining position, where if we didn't have pick 1 and 3 we couldn't.

I think it is high time to off the Priority Pick, but once we have got our full use of it, because it is a crap mixed feeling every week.

Too right. What's annoying is those that make out that supporters don't care about the club if we hope for a win. I don't care what the results are for the next 5 weeks as long as we play good footy and develop the youngsters. But I sure wouldn't judge or criticise other supporters that beg for a win. The only supporters that I would ever criticise are those that beg for a loss at round 4 of a season. And I also wouldn't try to fool other supporters into thinking that losing the next 5 is the ONLY way for us to be a force again. Or that if we miss out on the PP we are doomed - what a load of rubbish. Sure it might make things slightly easier, but anything else is unrealistic. Things will happen the way they happen. I'll be happy and positive either way because we have the right administration and the right coach in place now. I'll only start getting pissed again if we make the wrong decisions in the things we can control... like list management, staffing, recruiting, development, etc.
