'This is to confirm that Michael Voss has advised the Carlton Football Club that he has decided not to seek a coaching role in 2008.
Carlton CEO Greg Swann said he appreciated and respected Michael's decision. "We have previously advised that we are concentrating on a short list of candidates for the senior coaching role in 2008 and our focus remains on this short list. Michael's decision does not alter the Club's position or the process, it means there is one less candidate for consideration," Swann said.'

Hand me my opera glasses, Jeeves.

I think I see a prima donna.

Seriously, it would be difficult for any Queenslander to leave for Melbourne. :P

No, seriously seriously, betcha it was his wife that convinced him to stay.

I've just read this thread; and I'm not picking up any enthusiasm for Ratts as our Coach; and I'm wondering why.

Once again he was very very impressive today and cool calm and collected when attacked by the Media scrum and asked about Voss's decision to stay out of the whole Coaching gig for 2008.

Ratts sounds like a man who knows exactly where he's going, and said he was only concerned about the next game against Collingwood.

He also said another first gamer would play plus Grigg will come in for his second game.

Jeez, he's flip-flopped more than a poli on this one hasn't he? First he's happy commentating, then he's got a team ready and is up for it, then he's not sure, next he 'needs to be convinced', moves on to being keen to talk to interested parties, now has ruled himself out.

Not a great way to demonstrate your singularity of purpose there Vossy. I think he may have done us a favor.

…Really ...? He is growing on me, my only concern is that an insider may have picked up bad habits.

Ratts has to get the job. He has really swayed my mind with his public displays the past week. Even though his image isn't as marketable as Voss, he is selling the youth and Carlton spirit image very well.

The questions we would have to wait and see answered are who would his assistants be? Would he change from the current assistants? Would he have the say on the senior players remaining on the list? Will Mitchell remain as a Carlton Reserves Coach?

Mitchel and co at it again.

When the co meet Voss they made it clear that Barry Mitchel will pay a part in 08 re coaching staff.

Know not sure how much this played a part in his decision today.

I am concerned.

Voss came across as arrogant and a tad stupid when he was giving the reasons for not wanting to coach next year.

I'm glad we missed out on him.

For the first time in a very long time; Mitchell was involved in full training tonight......some commonsense returning to PP.

Voss might have been foolish, but he would have been even more foolish if he had actually taken a coaching job if he was not 100% committed.

I'd still welcome him as an assistant though, or as one of these development coaches Swann's been talking about (imagine Ashman and Voss building these kids' morales).

Won't happen (luckily).....he stated on the News tonight that he and his family are staying in Queensland next year; and will honour his Media commitments.

On the subject of him coaching....he said he may think about it in 3-4-or 5 years down the track.

Not a sign of an organised mind..........

Im a very happy blueman.

I Always felt that Voss at Carlton thing had a kind of 'so near but so far away' vibe about it.

The only way I could explain this feeling was to say that Voss would be selected, but would end up not taking up the job.

We will never know for sure whether he got the job, but methinks he did.

Ive got a very very strong feeling of Destiny and Success about Bret Ratten though.

When I met him once at a family day, I actually told him this.

But he is a very humble and honourable man that doesnt allow such accolades to inflate his ego - which is a very good quality indeed.

Despite this, I think he knows in his heart that great things might come from his role as a coach, this is because he is so deliberate and purposeful in his approach.

And deliberate acts signify a deeper purpose. - I think we all know what particular purpose that might be for Carlton.

Only one day has passed, but we are actually from my point of view a giant leap forward now to a 17th flag.

This is because the next Carlton premiership is won by a team of utterly committed young players who would gladly bleed blue for their new young coach who they all love (with a footballing kind of emotional love of course).

Extraordinary performances would come from players with a mindset like this.

I believe that the personal qualities of Brett Ratten fit that particular future and at this stage still hypothetical coach very well indeed.

I do hope that he now gets the job and embodies all that I believe he is capable of..
