Voss hasn't played this one too well. Should really have toned down the 'I'm ready and my team is ready' talk until he knew he'd commit.

Now, it just looks like he wanted to do it, but was talked out of it by wiser heads. Perhaps wiser heads who covet having him as an assistant coach at their club?

My thoughts.....Voss to Brisbane to take over when Leigh Matthews gives it away..........

This is to confirm that Michael Voss has advised the Carlton Football Club that he has decided not to seek a coaching role in 2008.

Carlton CEO Greg Swann said he appreciated and respected Michael's decision.

"We have previously advised that we are concentrating on a short list of candidates for the senior coaching role in 2008 and our focus remains on this short list. Michael's decision does not alter the Club's position or the process, it means there is one less candidate for consideration," Swann
said.

Do you know if this means Voss would not be considered for an assistant role if he was interested?

i am happy about this.

lets for once go through the proper process and find the right candidate for our team.

at least now we will go through the rest of the candidates, testing them and interviewing them. they will come in thinking "hey if i want this job i have to impress, i have to go in there with a plan" as opposed to "vossy already has this one, i will go see them but i dont have to try"

I am happy about this. I wouldn't be surprised if the pressure of success got to him. A lot of ppl were talking him up, and being human, he must have felt the pressure.

Regardless, it is good that we didn't go with him. As many ppl on this forum have said, we need someone who can give their 100% and be committed. We can't have someone decide they want to coach, and then change their mind later on.

Go with Ratts I say. I wanted McKenna initially, but I am warming to Ratts. Let's keep the blue blood flowing...give Kouta a position on the coaching team straight away. Again as someone said, a clearance coach sounds really good. Would love for Kouta to hang around the club in some sort of capacity. He's too good a player and person to leave the Carlton footy club.

Voss = Fool

Thank God for that.

I've been worried about Voss all along but at times have been talked around by others who claim messiah status for him. Always came across as a bit thick for mine. This decision (or his lack of a previous decision) has exposed him as lacking in brains big time.

If you want to coach an AFL side you need to make that decision BEFORE putting your name out there. Instead this stupid little git has sold himself all over town without having actually committed to coaching.

Vossy - you can go and join the line of "I coulda been a great coach" wankers with Gary and Dermott.

If you can't realise that you're stuffing people around with this sort of behaviour how in the @#$%&! do you expect to manage a list of 40 odd players?

Hope he enjoyed the attention.

We dodged a bullet with this one I reckon.

Well said GWS! @#$%&! him. He can't just twiddle us around his fingers and decide he doesn't want to coach us! WE decide who the coach is. The choice is NOT with him.

GO BLUES!!!

Not suprised that Voss has decided not to take a senior position.

Hopefully Ratts will show that he can coach. Brett has done the hard yards both as a player and assistant, he deserves a shot at a senior position. If he can coach then I really like the idea of a favourite son of the club taking us into a new era

With you there.

I am concerned that Josh Kaplan, whose sources are good, still reckons he was over the line a month or so ago. Just confirms misgivings many of us have about the 'process' Carlton continues to follow. How could we have a guy who is equivocal about the club and coaching, over the line. Shades of Mal Blight at the Saints, except he had proved he could coach and had experience, he just had to be begged to take the job.

Don't think Vossy comes out of this very well at all. The immaturity in his , 'love to coach', 'not sure make me an offer', 'don't want to coach' approach indicates clearly that he doesn't at present have the required qualities. So why was Carlton so keen?

If he was 'over the line' if he wanted it then I am still really worried about how we are going about this.

Then again Vossy may have read TC and realised the wisdom of several of the opinions expressed here....

Bit disappointed, as I thought he'd be a good get. No real reason, just gut feel.

Still, it's a plum role and there's plenty of eligible suitors.

NEXT!

This thread is why TC is such a great boon to us tragics out there! News is on the money and great discussion around the topic. If we take what Swannie is saying as true the process is alive and well and we will get the best person (hoping it's Ratts of course!).

A few of my mates had that feeling about him too. Great leader, triple premierships, confident bloke and all that

I personally argued for the club to keep Rats.

I told the guys that I’ve had gut feelings too, and sometime they’ve turned out to be the runs!!!
Especially in the last week Voss has come across very amateurish and I have really turned off him. This could be a good thing as he obviously had a lot of demand for his services (warranted or not) and Im not usre he is ready

Josh' mail is usually very good but I reckon he's been misled on this one.

I'm still not sold on Ratten.

I love him to death, but I'm concerned Ratts being a bit insular, even though he's had roles away from Carlton.

I think I'd prefer a complete outsider - but not McKenna. Gut feeling again :-D

No club with any interest at all in winning games should go for an untried Voss.

That's why I was so sure you guys would pick him up. Just another "white knight" that you put so much faith in that delivers nothing.

:P

Or prehaps Voss was over the line, he just decided that he didn't want to coach next year after all.
