What increases the pressure this year is the fact Geelong, the Kangaroos and Port Adelaide, the top three after Round 17, all have earned their success without special benefits.

Geelong - major beneficiaries of the father-son rule (both Abletts, Hawkins, Scarlett & Blake off the top of my head), who also traded aggressively (i.e they got lucky) in 2001 and came out the better for it.

Port Adelaide - inaugural pilfering of the best talent in the SANFL anyone?

Kangaroos - Still riding on the same players that Pagan made. Let's see how long they last in September.

All good and well to have an opinion as you always do Mike, but for the love of God point to real evidence instead of doing a quick google on what picks which players went.

Yes let's point to the best draft since 2001 for insight into year-to-year trends Gary, then let's point to a bloke who'd have gone top 3 or 4 without any questions on his knee, then let's automatically label him good because he can run around as a third-stringer in the midfield.

You are officially a muppet.

Whoah!

If we have the number 1 draft pick as PP, do we get the #1 PSD??

if thats true we would also have 1st pick in the rookie draft?

I havent seen this addressed anywhere yet!

No
We won't have Pick 1 in either of the PSD or rookie. That'll be the Tigers

re: Kangaroos.....dont agree......credit where its due....they drafted well in 2000 while we couldnt find a winner.
Key players like McIntosh, Firrito, etc had nothing to do with Pagan.....they
got drafted on their merits and were developed...
Leigh Brown was a good trade....
While I agree they dont have the stars to win a flag they give you value for money and Laidley has extracted max output out of a team of scrappers....

They still live and die by Harvey, Simpson, Sinclair & Grant.

They're on the same road Essendon* are trying to arrest themselves from.

Hand back Tom Williams and Farren Ray if the priority pick rule was so unfair to the Dogs.

It's always good to see balanced reporting and opinion isn't it? It's not like Lyon has a stake in Melbourne having a no 2 pick is it? And Sheahan - very balanced and measured there. Again with the Carlton bashing. If this is the way it was at the beginning of the season, then put up with it boys. Or if you don't like it - go home. That's my rant

I'd like to add to this poll..........................

you have two choices.

1) We loose, and conitue loosing to ensure us of yet another #1 draft pick.

or

2) We go out, Humiliate Collingwood, get a much needed win and........a win for Kouta!

Could you imagine the send off the boys would give him after the win? I can just see them carrying him off the field and into the rooms. He'll feel as much a part of that win as he ever has before DESPITE not even playing.

I like that ending.

*sorry, i'm still really emotional and i crap on a bit too much........i'm heading off for another cry now!*

:(

I'm really worried about the Melbourne game. We badly need some injuries and/or suspensions over the next 3 weeks.

Has anyone wondered why Ratts said yesterday that the best thing for the players is to WIN GAMES?

But then again, he's just a guy who has played league football for over 10 years and our current coach. What would he know? :garthp:

The same coach who took Fev and Scotland off - at the time on in the last quarter.

Ratts is a genius and he has the job long term if he wants it.

Lets count his win/loss ratio as Carlton Coach from Round 1, season 2008.

Beat me to it Agro. It was as obvious as can be without saying it but we tanked yesterday.

With Fev, Scotland and Carrots on the ground we may not have won, but he made sure of it.

"Dr Smooth" Peter Larkins on the Footy Show today (paraphrased, as I can't remember exact wording):
"If Carlton wanted to lose they should've kept Fev on and risked tearing the thigh muscle completely"

Or from Fev himself (once again paraphrased):
"I originally wasn't supposed to play (flu). McLaren warmed up with the team."

Yup, he knows the plan well

Donny you can  but I will  .

I'll take the 2 picks in the top 3 any day over a win between now and round 22.

Unless of course you can find me some "Form Fours" and sign us up a Kernahan, Bradley, Motley or Dorotich.

waiting ............................ waiting ........................................

waiting .............................. waiting ......................................

Cant find any "Form Fours"????

No worries, I'll give you another

Well riddle me this. If the goal was to tank, why play Fevola in the first place? Wouldn't the slightest cough have put him in the ICU at the Alfred if this were the case?
