Sad day... Was a champion, in his prime he was unstopable. Saw this on bigfooty, his awesome run in 2000 where the umpires found it hard not to give him 30 votes :?

R8 vs. Syd 39 touches, 13 marks, 2 goals
R9 vs. Fre 33 touches, 8 marks, 4 goals
R10 vs. St.K 30 touches, 9 marks, 3 goals
R11 vs. Nth 38 touches, 8 marks, 5 goals
R12 vs. WC 28 touches, 9 marks, 1 goal
R13 vs. Melb 32 touches, 8 marks, 2 goals
R14 vs. Geel 29 touches, 9 marks, 2 goals
R15 vs. Adel 28 touches, 5 marks, 2 goals
R16 vs. Bris 33 touches, 4 marks, 3 goals
R17 vs. Haw 26 touches, 7 marks, 4 goals

It was a shock to hear it on the news, and it will make a difference on field for the rest of the year.

I am glad I got to meet him when the Blue Juggernaut came to Sydney in Feb06 ... even got a pic to prove it, just lack the technology to show it off ... I'm glad I got to see one a Team of the Century contender live in action ...

Thanks for the good times Kouta.

I can remember seeing Kouta play his first pre-season game back in the early 90s and telling a mate of mine "he's the worst player to ever pull on a Carlton jumper". Boy, was I wrong -- he's become one of our all-time best.

Thanks for all the great memories Kouta & good luck for the future.

Listening to the press conference. Shedding a tear man. I hope our youngsters are listening to the way this legend is speaking about our great club.

Its a sad day, sad day indeed when a champion retires without having the honor of playing a last game with his mates.

Lets face it, Kouta was a freak who could do freakish things.

I still have up on my desk where it has been since early 2001. It was the Inside Carlton membership mag with a picture of Kouta on the front with the words "BOSMAN & KOUTOUFIDES SIGN UP - Carlton officials delighted" - The only time that is coming off is when I leave this place.

Kouta was the Carlton football club in late 99, 2000, 2001 and if in 2000 against Essendon* he didn't get that knee injury and in 2001 when Essendon* TANKED their last game in rd 22 against richmond to deny us a top 4 finish and facing us in the first rd of the finals and then badly doing the knee again during the finals who knows what more greatest we could have seen from him.

Good luck and thanks Kouta.

Yep, that's Kouta and that's Sheedy and Essendon*. Sheedy was scared sh1tless of the great man, as he was in 2000/2001.

He's a once in a generation player for the Blues - let's hope our next in line is about to be unleashed!

Great player for the club......the West Coast game where he took 18 marks was one of the finest games I have seen from a player....
Wont miss his manager though....

Thanks for the memories Kouta. Champion athlete, who developed into Champion footballer. Never forget the one-handed pick ups in heavy traffic, the amazing spring and dash.

His effort in the first half of the 95 GF iced the game for us (how he didn't win the NS was amazing to me), and had he not gone down with Braddles in that infamous rd 19 game against the Bummers in 2000, reckon we'd have won the flag.

Very tempting to say Flower Kreuzer and let's "do it for Kouta" this week !!

Ummmm what can you say except thankyou?

An amazing player in his prime. The closest thing to superman that I have seen on a football field. It's such a shame that injuries cut him down the way they did.

Thankyou Kouta.

A pleasure to watch the way this man not only conducted himself on a footy field, but in life as well. Even during our darkest moments these past few years, seeing Kouta's face and knowing that he was still a part of the club no matter what always had a reassuring affect on me.

I know that critics will say "He only had a couple of great years" and that sort of shite, but what they fail to acknowledge is that 2000 was just the beginning. He hadn't reached the peaks of his powers yet, and there truly was no limit to what he could accomplish in this game. But as always, the gods smiled on the red&black, and not only was their most lethal enemy cut down when it finally came time to face him, but it was the beginning of the end. Had he not gone down and continued to play at full capacity, he would be now talked about before Carey, Hird, Harvey, Voss, Buckley and all the rest.

He truly was the mould for the modern footballer, and I only hope that in the coming years when we see more and more high jumpers and sprinters become the norm in our game, that Kouta's contribution will not be forgotten.

This is just another reason to @#$%&! the PP up its arse, because Kouta deserves the highest level of commitment, loyalty and passion for this one last roll of the dice against the black and white army (even though he won't be playing). This should be a profound moment for our next group of leaders. No longer is there a premiership player on our list, which is truly a turning point for the club, and blokes like Murphy, Simpson, Carazzo, Waite and Fisher should see this as their opportunity to forge their own legacy.

I know that Kouta has his own business interests and a life outside football, but I hope that he stays with the club in some capacity. It's no secret to anyone that his presence alone is a great help to these kids, and even though he isn't captain anymore he would still show far more leadership than our "leaders" in just a qtr of game time.

All the best Kouta-man. Thank you for the memories, and may the best be yet to come.

Goodbye and Good Luck big fella.

Simply unstoppable in your prime and some of the things I saw you do were just incredible.

Not just an amazing sports identity but just a really humble, amiable bloke.

You are a true champion of our great club and I will miss seeing you and the number 43 guernsey running around with the boys.

All the best mate and thanks for everything
