With just 5 games to go for the rest of the season, it may be in our best interests to play the kids and develop them and gain picks 1 and 3 or 4 in this years draft..
I think its pretty pathetic though to be pushing for that to happen at the start of the season like some were doing.. Some people are a bit of a joke really in that respect..
I must say after the StKilda game i was as content after the game as i have been after a loss.. there were many positives to take out, namely the contribution from Jacko who really looks a player, and was given LOTS of gametime and faith from the coach!
I was also very pleased with Betts who i reckon had one of his better games and showed he should be used more in the middle, has pretty good skills and in that last quarter really gave us a spark.. And his defensive work is always great... Another who will improve under a new coach and game plan..
Add Kennedy to the mix, Stevens, hopefully Brendan Fevola! we can't afford to lose our best player, i honestly can't believe the rough deal he gets from the media and supporters sometimes, Scotland and Thornton are just as bad and wear their hearts on sleeve, Fev's a matchwinner and can turn a game on its head!
He plays with raw emotion and sometimes gets caught up in it, but he's a cmpetitive beast, has been with us through the bad, loves Carlton and we need to keep our star talent!
Next year things COULD be a lot better! I like what i've seen from Ratten and would be a worthy coach if he gets the gig, i loved what he said in the press conference really putting the onus on the players and they look as though they respond to him.. But if we choose a Voss and he's the preffered candidate i'd be happy with that too.. Swanny and Co arent dills..
Murphy, Gibbs, The O'Hailpins, Betts, Russell, Kennedy.. and the inclusion of Stevens back in the fold will really improve the team next year, Ratts is already a MUCH better option as coach than Pagan.. We crave wins but development is the No.1 priority and we can only grow and things can only go up from here..
I've thought for a while now that there would be a few players that will only improve under a new coach, gameplan and self belief and i'll be interested to see how that goes over the next year..
So youre only pathetic towards the end of the season????Maybe some of the others wernt ahead of themselves on the back of a pre season tournament win (handy for the prizemoney)
And some people have an understanding of the list and what we NEED to have to move up the ladder with any real intent going forward.
With a new coach.. and new facilities and a real infrustructure and a stable of early quality picks... im happy as from next year to go forward as what we have will be developed properly.
However.. till now.. we were way off the pace.. and no amount of daydreaming and fantasizing was going to change that!
(As we have seen)
Well Synbad, as a passionate Carlton supporter i always want to see improvement in the list and in players going forward.
And its been 6 LONG years we've had to wait and bear with the shit that we've had to cop from an incompetent pathetic board ruled by Smorgon, malouf and Co.. Not to mention Elliott and thats just off field!!
With Pratt on board and off field very positive changes in the works, yes i do believe an extra draft pick will be important for us to where we want to get to in the coming years, but with a different game plan, coach and players enjoying their football being liberated we could have been a lot better this year..
PA were woeful when we played them but at the same time we played exciting attacking footy, for the first time in such a long time we were out there hunting, going for the kill, playing like WINNERS!...
Thats what footballs all about, and its about improvement, development and the team growing.. That could NEVER happen on a consistent basis with Pagan at the helm but it can be a different story in years ahead under a coach who has faith in the players, knows how to manage and develop them...
Our list is average, but are you honestly telling me since round 1 you've been hoping for a tank?? Does that suggest our players are going forward?? Or does it suggest we're lagging again, living up once again for another year as the bad news Blues which we have become and been the laughing stock of the AFL and all supporters...
The great thing Synbad, about a new year is it brings renewed hope, goals, challenges and a vision for the growth of today, leaving behind yesterday... I Always go to a game hoping we'd win, were at a different stage as a group as to 2004.. What i want to see Synbad, is our young kids really becoming and growing into players, each year the likes of Walker, Kennedy, Betts, Murphy, Gibbs stepping up that extra notch and winning games as a result of these guys development....
That where i want to see us winning football!! I cant advocate tanking at the start of the year!! I'm pretty sure a lot of your fair weather supporters and potential members, corporate sponsors, FTA networks feel the same.. I can only imagine where we'd still be financial wise if we had the former board still with us, losing more money as a result of our performance and people would still want to tank right from the start of the year!!
The Kangaroos have done this year what they needed to do! To get their club moving forward off field, they've had to produce the goods on field.. When it looked like a move to Carrara or at worst meging was on the cards.. Financially going down the gurgler as a result of performance, just like we had done previously..
With a strong stable board these issues have been sorted out now.. BUT
We are in a winning and losing business... And i want to see the players we have and the ones coming through improve!! Therefore have the confidence to back themselves attack and win games of footy.. Pivotal when you consider most of football is played above the shoulders..
Most of all i want to see real heart and a winning mentality, each year and every game from my beloved Carlton Footy Club...
At this point in time, a PP for the sake of short term losses sounds a good idea, never at the start of the year when so much is to be gained in the development of the group..
