Mahogany Room, Crown Casino - 2am Wednesday morning.

Mil Hanna, Greg Williams, and three other unidentified people were spotted with Kernahan. They were only noticed when some raised voices were heard over the tables. Mil Hanna was getting stuck into Sticks about Pagan getting sacked, or more accurately the way it was handled. Suggested that it could have been finished at the end of the season, and in-house as opposed to when the club it at it's lowest ebb of the season. It was also suggested by Sticks that the decision was made some time ago, to which Hanna asked why the search hadn't begun to find a new coach until just now...

It also appeared Williams was supporting Hanna, and Sticks was rather red-faced and suffered from a lack of response. A few people asked the staff to move them to a quieter area - but the discussion wasn't exactly heated, more of a passionate discussion between the Carlton greats.

It happened, I'm just chucking it up here - make of it what you will.

(Sorry, would have posted this up sooner but I've been AWOL...)

If this is true then perhaps Sticks is out of the loop on the coaching position and the hunt's been going on behind his back for months.

Thanks Sparky - I feel much better now.

I can confirm that both Sticks and Mil were at Crown that morning (I was there for an LG product launch in the Palladium if you don't believe me). I was in the Vegas room as they were leaving, and Mil actually played a couple of rounds of Casino war (kinda like Blackjack) while I was at a roulette table behind him. Mil seemed a bit agitated, and had probably had a few drinks too, and actually shooed one of the other guys away when they tried to push him to go with them. Didn't notice Diesel though, but there were a few guys in suits there that I didn't get much of a look at.

Well considering Justin Crawford was known for taking a leak on a table at the Casino, I'm not sure if you could call it lame.

Just so people recognise the truth of Sticks and co being at Crown that evening/morning.

From two days ago
Quote:
Saw Sticks at the casino last night (forgot how flower tall he is), in the Vegas room with some suits. I thought I recognised a couple of them but no names come to mind. Don't know if it was a social gathering (the poker tournament was happening) or a meeting of some kind. Probably nothing though.

No, at the time I didn't know the bald bloke was Mil. I know, outrageous huh? But he didn't seem to be really be "with" Sticks and the others, so I guess I didn't associate them with each other. I guess I just thought he was another angry drunk bloke pissed off at losing his money. But reading that Mil was there that night puts a name to the face.

Yep, October 2006. Reckon Sticks and Gleeson weren't going to let it go. They must have had kittens as the NAB Cup unfolded, but would have done a happy dance when Stevo went down.

The club held a friendly poker tournament at Crown on Tuesday evening.
Corporate supporters of the club were offered the opportunity to enter and play for $500 a head.

As for the Pagan issue, Mil needs to get over it.
Kernahan has more than his share of faults but at least he is offering his time and energies to the club and has for several years.
There are plenty of past players who were nowhere to be seen when the club was on its knees.

Now you are just being silly - done a dance when Stevo went down having kittens when we won the NAB cup - not everyone is like Collo you know

You have to be kidding - Pagan wasn't sacked for the last 12 weeks he was sacked for the last 5 years . Given half decent results he may have lasted to round 22 and coached his 350th game and that would have been a fitting end to it all . But obviously 117 points was enough

You misread the initial post, SB. That had Sticks saying that the decision was made some time ago (ie, before the 117 point loss).

And your own post suggests that the decision was made because of the accumulation of things over 5 years - and yet when I suggested that Sticks and Gleeson had decided last October to see him off, you dispute it? You don't seem to understand the implications of your own points.

No read my post again _ I am suggesting that you were being silly to think that Gleeson and Sticks would have been shitting themselves over the Nab cup and dancing when Stevo went down - Pagan was gone long before that and he was never ever going to see 2008 _ I am sugesting that they decided to keep him until end of 2007 but in the end just couldn't

I reckon they were rolled in October, and were waiting to finish the job. We'll never know, but if Stevo hadn't gone down, and we'd put a few more wins on the board, then things may have become more difficult for them. After all, Wallace was a signed-off deal at Sydney, but the Directors had to back down when Roos didn't play to their script.

Only problem I can see with this is the thread title - you have used the word "greats" - probably the singular would have sufficed. :P

Whats the point to it?

Do we really need to know?

It reeks of someone overhearing a few words and putting 2 and 2 together to come up with 5.

Why were they only noticed when voices were raised? Sparky being a Carlton supporter surely would have noticed a bald Mil Hanna standing with Sticks.

I doubt Hanna is nieve enough to believe the search for a new coach has only just begun.
