I don't know if this has been raised before,

I watched the Brisbane game on Foxtel (enough said) and then watched a replay of the Melbourne game.

Is it just my 56yo. eyes, but the Melbourne navy blue in their jumpers looks NAVY BLUE. (like ours used to)

Carlton's blue looks like the background colour of this web page.

Is the Melbourne jumpers from a different maker?
The club should insist on NAVY BLUE from Nike or whoever makes their jumpers.
And why did we have to wear those horrible socks with the white band against Brisbane, surely no colour conflict there.

Melbourne has been navy blue for quite a while, although it happened so quietly I think many people still don't notice it. I see no difference though between ours and their's. Ours is made by Nike, their's by Asics.

Is there a difference?

Comparing those 2 shots, the difference is ours looks far less gay.

(Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.)

I think you're right bluecralton, our navy blue has been looking decidedly faded and unloved lately, don't worry thought ... I'm lead to believe there will be a refreshed and sharper navy blue next year !

Were Melbourne wearing a heritage strip? Could that explain the colour difference?

AFAIK Melbourne has always had navy blue.

They changed it to royal blue with the introduction of colour television.

Then they realised how crap it looked and changed it back.

Our Navy Blue is officially known as "Oxford Navy" if that helps with the discussion as to whether it's the same as Melbourne's or not.

Must say it looks decidedly lighter than say 10yrs and even 20yrs ago. The darker strip looks much better, hope they change it back.

Our Navy Blue looks lighter than the past because of the material the guernseys are made from. They tend to "shimmer" in the light causing them to look several shades lighter.

Have a look back at some old vision. Our guernseys look almost BLACK and very menacing! They almost had the effect of a pirate ship's "Skull and Cross Bones".

I know this has been said before but our logo looks very innocent and non-threatening... almost apologetic!

To whom are we apologizing? Stuff them all!

In theory, I agree with the "iron-on" type logo but the Big C (in CFC) needs to be wider, bigger, fatter and bolder.

As for Melbourne.... well they can do what they like.... who cares anyway? They've always been pathetic and without soul. A bunch of nobodys!

I always liked the guernsey Craig Bradley wore for most of his career. I'm sure he got his hands on some "old stock" as his logo looked like something from the late 70's. Bear Gleeson had the worst logo, it looked like something his grandmother may have repared.

Anyway... I've had my say on the subject....

At least Pagan's gone now...

Melbourne used to be Navy Blue and Red before they changed to a sort of Royal Blue when colour TV came in. Fitzroy also had Navy Blue with Moroon and a white FFC and they changed at the same time to Royal Blue and Burnt Red with a yellow monogram, which the Lions used in the heritage round.
In those old days of B&W TV, there was no clash of colours as all we had was white and black shorts to tell the difference between Carlton and Fitzroy and Collingwood and North and Hawthorn.
Maybe Melbourne are going back to their roots.
