I'm not sure this resolves the 'jobs for the boys' issue

I agree. We are talking a 30 million dollar business and growing. The factor of mateship or ex Carlton service shouldn't come into it.

Grant Thomas on SEN in the pre-game review tonight said he thought that the Carlton hierarchy (he didn't actually name Sticks) had willed Pagan to fail and cited the Pagan/Mitchell debacle. He said that by creating that conflict, they failed to show the solidarity with the football department that is necessary. He thought that the players would notice that and use it. He thought that would be in the back of their minds when they decided whether to commit on field.

Liam Pickering suggested that Carlton and Richmond seemed to boast about sacking coaches, and he mimicked Big Jack boasting about sacking Parkin and Brittain.

I reckon that this image will make coaching applicants a bit wary of the administration. Not that this will put many off as there are only a handful of jobs going in any year. But the successful applicant will presumably make sure that his contract is iron-clad and protects him from interference from the Board. It'll be interesting to see if Sticks' role as Chairman of the Match Committee will be challenged.

Greg Denham suggested in the Australian that Mitchell would be retained if Ratts takes the senior job, but things are unclear if Voss takes it. In the latter case, he thought that he would stay at Carlton but in the recruiting area. So it looks as though Sticks and Gleeson will ensure that their mate has a job next year no matter what.

That might explain the last 12 months but what about the 4 years prior to Mitchell applying for his job when he and Pagan were working together .

Thomas is making a habit of shooting his mouth off to create publicity about himself

Yes, the sacked coaches like pumping up each others tyres.

IMO, prospective coaches will be knocking the door down.
Its the best gig in town.

It is also untrue to suggest that Barry Mitchell will be retained by the club. The assistant coach's decision to remain this season hurt Carlton and Mitchell's own reputation and it would be staggering now if his legacy was retained.

Move Mitchell on. Then the sweeping is almost complete.
