Not going to be the same beating the scum next year without seeing that look on Sheeds' face.

P.S. Just kidding... the feeling will be the same only the face will have changed... :-D

Signing up Voss as senior coach of Carlton next year would be a mistake, just like signing up Pagan 5 years ago was. Voss has no experience in coaching. He had an armchair ride as captain of Brisbane because they were a super-team - one of the best that we have seen. What he is like outside of that environment is pure speculation. Pagan was never suited to Carlton. He was of the old school, a hard disciplinarian and a bully-boy. Society has moved on from that type of mentality. What do I want? I want someone with coaching experience - someone that has already cut his teeth at the caper. I don't want a giggling, immature Voss that we have to nurse along the way. We have a stack of kids that need direction, without having a coach that needs the same.

Just have to refer to the image of the Scum Coaching Box just before the end of the 1999 PF where the realization of losing the unlosable crept across Sheedy and his gang of senior coaching wannabees  .

Warms the cockles of my heart.

Um...you ARE aware that Brisbane were FAR from premiership material when Voss was first made captain, right?

Not entirely true Voss came into the team as a young boy - when Brisbane were crap and I think he learnt plenty from Walls, Northey and then Leigh Matthews, as they moved there way up the ladder - the question is can he transfer/translate that experience to the Coaching job he is about to undertake.

Yes, but essentially Voss, Akermanis, Leppitsch, Scott x 2, Johnson, Michael and Lappin came through at the same time. Add to that Brown, Power, Black, Bradshaw and Notting at the start of their careers and a Lynch, Hart, Pike, Keating and McRae near the end and anyone could lead that side.

I am not saying that Voss was not a good leader. It is just that he was a leader of a very good side and that side could have led themselves. How he translates that to coaching, as Agro has said, is anyone's guess. Why do we need to guess on our next coach? Why don't we take someone who has experienced the caper?

We maybe able to get whatever coach we want, but meanwhile back in the ranch The Kangaroos get on with actually winning games.

They are second on the ladder - with a coach many don't rate....

As long as we start winning - i wouldn't care if we were coached by Elmer Fudd or Bronwyn Bishop or anyone for that matter.

..in regards to Voss having it easy as captain cos he led a team full of stars.. ..that's actually harder.. ..you gotta manage all those ego's that have the skills to back up all their talk.. ..you gotta get all those star players that could be captains in their own right to follow you, and follow you well and with passion..

You know Ron Barassi was an untried coach once?

So was Allan Jeans, Tom Hafey, David Parkin, Kevin Sheedy, Mick Malthouse, Paul Roos, John Worsfold and Denis Pagan.

One thing all the great coaches have in common is that at one stage they were untried as senior coaches.

Unsure on the rest Brad, but Denis and Woosha didn't go straight into senior gigs.

Good one Norm.

However, Voss will be a good move re the Carlton brand.

As we all know, it is the football business these days. Not saying Voss won't offer anything on the coaching front; on the contrary, he will provide great off-field leadership and good tactical nous* I would think.

But it goes without saying that the name Voss is well respected across the land and will be good for the promotion of the club. His asking price might, in the end, be chicken feed for what the club will get out of him financially.
