I wouldn't mind some experienced defenders.

How would Cloke go holding down CHF, he is a big bodied guy & has the experience as well, he surely has the height & that could release Kennedy to CHB to get some confidence back in his game - they could rotate when cloke goes into the ruck - just a thought ???

not going to happen anytime soon, you talk of kangaroos, who are their enforcers? they certainly arent their kids, its the senior players.

to get some of those in, we will need to recruit mature bodies.

also, i dont think that side is as slow as you may think it is

anderson, griggs, walker, bower, simpson, russel, houlihand, betts all have abut of toe about them

but that is also something we can look at in the upcoming draft.

but i do liken us to Geelong. I think we will improve next year, but still have a few shit games, but generally will be alot more consitent.

year after we will take another step, another pre-season, players becoming stronger etc.., year after that (2010) should see us aiming towards finals and having a fair crack.

i dont think our list is as bad as what many say, its the one thing i have agreed with on Pagan, we need time to give them a couple more preasons, time for them to mature into the roles.

Team for 2008 (im not a 100% sure of the ages, but they are what i think they are)

FF - Fisher (22) - Fevola (26) - Betts (21)
HF - Gibbs (18) - Kennedy (19) - Houlihan (25)
C- Simpson(22) - Scotland (26) - Russel (21)
HB - Thorton (22) - Waite (23) - Walker (22)
FB - Bower (20) - Setanta (23) - Anderson (19)
Ruck - Cloke (22) Murphy (20) Stevens (27)
Int - Krezuer (18) Aisake (21) Griggs (18) Blackwell (21) Hartlett (22)

and that doesnt include what else we get in this years draft

same team, 2010, and about 200kgs heavier and alot fitter across the board

FF - Fisher (25) - Fevola (29) - Betts (24)
HF - Gibbs (21) - Kennedy (22) - Houlihan (28)
C- Simpson(25) - Scotland (29) - Russel (24)
HB - Thorton (25) - Waite (26) - Walker (25)
FB - Bower (23) - Setanta (26) - Anderson (22)
Ruck - Cloke (25) Murphy (23) Stevens (30)
Int - Krezuer (21) Aisake (24) Griggs (21) Blackwell (24) Hartlett (25)

and suddenly, with all players around 10kgs more, some less, some more, and alot fitter and stronger, and we start to see a good side on the park.

if we do it right, we can create a dynasty, and that is with vastly using the majority of the team we have (assuming they come on as expected)

Strike me down Carrazzo doesn't get a gig?? He knows how to find the nut and you need to have the nut to win games.
However, Very good post. Very good. It's interesting when you look at that list in 3 years time and consider the age the each player will be, we will be a hell of a lot better than we are now. Also with another 50 games under the belt. All we need is just a little patience. In the mean time, tank this year, pick up picks 1, 3, 18, and others and keep building. However I probably prefer scotland back flank, perhaps walker centre, or in the 2010 team perhaps bryce centre

As for the pace issue, I think you'll find the recruiters are already onto that. Apart from bryce, (who's not exactly slow) all our 2006 draftees are very quick. Grigg, Hampson, Austin, Anderson, Benjamin. Check out their draft camp results, all very impressive in the sprint sections

Voss for coach. Fresh

I dont hate Carazzo, but for me, someone that gets 35 Possesions a game, he is no where near as damaging as he should be.

I think, in time, players like Russel, Blackwell etc.. will be more damaging with it.

It wouldnt surprise me to see Carazzo not at the club in 3 years time, and i say that in no disrespect to Carrots, as he is a good player, if he can get his skill level up he will still be there, if he cant i dont think he will be.

Geelong got rid of him for a reason.

..i reckon geelong got rid of him cos his development was slow, we've had him for a bit of time now too and he's starting to really hit his straps this year, and the team's been woeful.. ..and that's without Stevens in the guts copping the flak.. ..who-ever can rack up 17 possies in a 1/4 can play.. ..he'd already be damaging, if the team around him capitalised on all his hard work..

Given the unaccountable way Scotland has played his footy this year (previous years?) I would have Carrots in the side ahead of him in a heartbeat

Totally agree.

I'm still not sold on Russell & would be very surprised if he is still at the club in a few more years time. He's shown a bit of improvement I know, & perhaps he just didn't get along with Pagan but I just don't like him still.

i think you're being very harsh. what's he supposed to do - score the goals as well? he gets the ball and looks for targets - that's the point. after that... geelong let him go probably because he was a later starter. he's been a major contributor to the team this year hasn't he? who else has stepped up more?

I understand why most of the players get criticised as they do here, but I will never for the live of me understand the negativity towards the guy who's probably leading our best and fairest at the moment, and has by far been our most consistent performer. It boggles the mind.

Trade Fevola for a first rounder and a established ruckman(Port Adelaide first rounder and Minson maybe)

Just play kids

Delist Whitnall, Lappin, Kouta, Saddington, McLaren, Teague, Bannister,Scotland, Houlihan, Wiggins,Ackland

Make Simpson captain

Murphy wil get his go

Thats 12 guys off the list

Promote Jackson, Jamison, Aisake and Jacobs along with Minson

This would leave chosing 7 youngsters in the draft

Lets clean out all the deadwood and start the rebuilding stage

No need to keep these players because of age, lack of application, softness and offfield behaviour and being a sookie, sookie la la

These guys wont be part of the successful Carlton that will start to occur in 2009 onwards.

And take Sticks with you.
you are kidding delist Scotland and Houlihan are they finished as footballers, trade them if we need more draft picks or other type players. We can't just Get rid of 12 players every year, you get no where doing that, the dockers did that all the time and got no where plus we did a clean out for the last 4 years, this is a ordinary draft most experts think.

Get Judd for Fev and Pick 19 (or there abouts) OR pick 3 and 19 - we must keep the number 1 pick.

Judd is the only experienced player we should look at and trade for.

Otherwise we continue to develop our own stars.

That would be a steal if we got Judd for Fev and pick 19 keeping our pick number 1 and 3.

Carrazo is the real deal I think. He's not really the explosive type that gets the pill and accellerates - which means he doesn't hurt the opposition as much. But as long as he keeps getting it and feeding it out to the explosive types (Simmo, Russell, Walker) than he has a place in the team.

Russell is coming along ok IMO. Shit coach hasn't got the most out of him yet, but the new guys will. He has all the right attributes, just needs to be positioned better. That's the coaches job.

Bentick has definitely improved, but I think he'll get overtaken first by all the young midfielders coming in.

I'd prefer we continue developing in house and only trade the players whose attitudes aren't what we need. If Scotland and Fev don't improve their attitudes, send them away and get more picks or CLASS players. Forget trading for average ruckmen and back flankers.

Hopefully Ratts can keep the moral up for the end of the year and we don't have any players walking. Then next year, no excuses. We need 8-10 wins or its a failed season. And if I hear one person mention the word tank, I'll puke.
