If we can get them, then fine by me.

I'd be pissed if I were Stevens.... then I'd think Judd would make my Job just a little bit easier.

What else do you do when bereft of leaders?

Give it to Whitnall again to set the tone?

..by all means try to get the player(s), but if the only way to get them here is to offer the captaincy it makes me squeamish..their leadership is bought, it's manufactured, versus earned with blood and sweat and tears alongside your playing group over time.. ..sure they're great captains at their respective clubs, but they've spent years there trying their guts out alongside team-mates.. ..for us, they're just highly skilled 'imports'..

Judd and Pav can have my left and right nut respectively if they both don the navy blue next year.

I know your type.
I recall you making the same offer to Glen Bowyer and David Clarke.

Either player would be an intelligent target. Both are excellent players, both have captained their clubs, both would provide onfield support for our young players and display the level of preparation required to reach their level. And - importantly - both would help drastically in the marketing of the club through increased sponsorship and more FTA games.

But it would take a hell of a lot more than 'the captaincy' to lure either of these blokes, our only hope lies with what can be arranged through Pratt.

Yeah but there's inspiration as well. You telling me either of those wouldn't inspire the kids just by being themselves out there - one thing Pagan said, which I agree with, is that we are crying out for someone to take the Club by the scruff of the neck and take us forward. Fev hasnt this year, Whitnall has disappointed us all, and youth takes time but still impress me generally.

Businesses buy leadership all the time - Swann is the case in point.

..don't get me wrong, i can see the benefits of such great players coming to the club, and they'd provide just as much without the captaincy i would think.. .. ..i dunno, mebbe it's me just bein' a bit nostalgic, it would be great to have 'one of our own' lead the club, or mebbe it's just making it official that we're such a rabble we gotta beg another player to captain our club and get us going forward cos we're too imcompetent to lead ourselves.. ..which once you strip it all back, is what yer doing by trading in a ready made captain over our own potential captains that so many of us have been banging on about i.e Murphy..

If anyone thinks they will come for the captaincy, they're dreaming.

If Pavlich left, he'd go home and Judd would only come if we could sell a future to him. Players are driven by success and hope. Not falsely acquired titles.
The dollars are also well and truly secondary.

(Insert Aaaron Hamill mercenary disclaimer here)

Agree......Judd will be on a big earner no matter what club he goes to if he does actually go....we need to be able to offer him the promise of regular finals and where he presides over a dynasty of success..
Pavlich will stay at Freo IMHO on a mega deal....

WA is booming atm, ask the Perth based posters. There's so much money around that Judd and Pav can double their income outside of football. Don't expect either to come. Its just some noise to let people know we are going to be doing business

Pav is an SA boy so I doubt we'd get him.

Judd would be a bit easier to get, however, I still highly doubt he'll leave the Eagles.

Ch. 7 do like a big headline...

I've not no doubt we're into any top-line out-of-contract footballers.

Whether we actually offer up the Captaincy is another thing.
