Took on one hell of a job and never stopped fighting, right til the end. Unfortunately the game and the effort at hand overwhelmed him.

Thanks for your efforts Den.

With ya all the way Elwood

I would front a press conference if I was getting over 600 gorillas for sitting on my arse.

I dont know all the ins and outs ,but it never sat well with me that he allowed Martyn to reach 300 games. What a joke that was

Pagan didnt put enough time into the youngsters

Pagan did not communicate with his reserves coach

He didnt keep up with the trends of modern day football

A strong willed but stubborn man

And to me that's the thing that was his ultimate downfall.

HE WAS A SHIT LISTENER. HIS WAY OR THE HIGHWAY
Iam sure the majority of the players are happier than me.

Laidley has done wonders with an inferior list on 400000 less
When you weigh it all up the board in last October should have stuck by its original decision to get rid of him

Just hope the correct decision on the future coach is made

thats why Sticks should follow Pagan down Royal Parade tonight.

Popeye, Dennis inherited a team that had just won a wooden spoon, with several players at the end of thier carreers including all those you mentioned, pile on being denied any worthwhile draft picks for two years and already your are buried under a tonne of horse manure before you even locate the shovel.

Now take your cup of blood and go sup it in the corner. Enjoy.

Well, you can say what you want about how Denis has coached over the years, but you can't say anything bad about how he handled himself today. It would have been so easy to let out all the frustrations and let fly with some accusations, but he was a class act to the end.

Thank you Denis and good luck in your future endevours.

Give me a break! The whole site wanted his blood for the last month and now that you've got it you're trying to wash your hands clean of it making phony threads about how you believe it's not his fault he's a shit coach.
Good luck trying to clear your consciences because that's all this thread is about.

Ummm, TheGame, Yes there were many who wanted Dennis sacked, I was not one of them, far from it. I did post 3 weeks ago that Dennis was in the gun particularly if he lost a couple of games badly, but that did not mean I wanted him to go. I have been and will continue be a huge Dennis fan.

All those players were injured during '02, but cause it's 5 years ago I understand. During those 2 years of being denied draft picks we got Simmo, Fish & Tex. We missed 3 players, Goddard, Wells and probably Brock McLean. He had 5 years to do something, ample time.

And I much prefer wine to blood.

He would have burnt them the same as he burns all talent.
He is a fossil.
He doesnt understand modern day setups.
He has not tutored them in linkages.
He has us play crash bang footy with underedeveloped bodies.
His man management was terrible.
His record was even worse.
He had to go .. he was killing the club.

Its 2007 heading towards 2010 .. not the nineties...

I would like to make some comments re the Pagan sacking. I was watching his press conference and despite what you may think of him, Denis Pagan is a class act IMHO. Yes his record at Carlton is deplorable and it brought down his demise as he was the man in charge from a football point of view, end of story. But I noticed his body language at the presser and he appears to have copped it on the chin and moved on, no hard feelings. Couple of points:
1. I noticed he turned up to the presser with his CFC tracksuit top on, still promoting the Club despite being sacked (I distinctly remember Thomas turned to his presser in civis, no StK attire and seemed aloof, bitter and disinterested).
2. On his way out, Denis put an arm around Swanny and gave him a pat on the back as if to say, chin up mate, you were just doing your job, business is business, nothing personal. It was genuine no doubt about it.

You can look at it a number of ways, but I reckon he tried best but just wasnt up to it. He was doing what he thought was the best for the Club and that quitting was not an option as it was taking the cheap, easy way out. I have seen a few nasty, personal comments which are unclassy and warranted. Lets all show the footy world that we, Carlton Supporters, are as classy as Denis and are respectful, decent people. I think we should all show him abit of respect, wish him all the best in his future endeavours and thank him for his efforts even if they werent good enough in the end. I was thinking about it today, Denis never publicly bagged the Club, the players, the admin, the umpires, the AFL or anyone else. He just went about his job and tried to make a difference but failed.

Be a better fit at Freo where he can team up with someone like Pavlich and they can run and dictate terms to the club like they did at the Kangaroo's. Pavlich can run the player group, look after his mates, pick the team and Denis can praise Pavlich and cover/clean up all the off field baggage that Freo have.....thats what Denis is good at.

Denis's ephitaph has not yet written - as it is yet to come.

His successor will coach in interesting times.

For all his faults, Denis will be seen to have brought some good to Carlton.

The club will be better off under a new enthusiastic coach with a new development program in place for our young players. We need to modernise as a club and Denis simply didn't fit the bill. I wanted him gone and now I'm glad he has bit the dust. Denis can look after himself, he's got enough self-confidence to make sure he's alright.

Noted exactly the same things myself. And he wore the Carlton gear again tonight on Foxtel.
