Look i dont begrudge Denis as a person and good luck to life after the Blues but i am not sorry he has gone and will be awhile for me to understand the damage i believe he brand to teh carlton brand over his brief history with the Blues

IF Dennis had pulled stumps i would have far more respect than him wanting to stay to the bitter end and bring down the club / brand / players / Supporters / members ect

Again remember he was the highest paid coach the Blues have ever had residing on the worst record and was much damage to the CFC

I am not sorry he has been sacked but i dont hold hold against him personally but do as a coach

Ditto from me.
was up against it from day 1.
Wasnt good for the club and the club wasnt good for him.
I'm sure he did his best. He wasnt the guy that hired him or renewed his contract. Wasnt up to the task at Carlton and he needed to go.

Agree with EB.

Sorry that Denis' time was filled with so many negative" highlights". I don't think Houdini himself could have escaped from the straightjacket Denis was in from day one.

That press conference was the classiest performance I have ever seen from a person in Denis' position.
Well done Denis.

As I said in the press conference thread

I was a Pagan supporter up until the Hawthorn game this year, and I've steadily grown more weary of the same old crap. For about 3 or so years I stuck by Denis, always looking to his previous success with both senior and younger players as evidence that we just needed patience with him. But during the Hawthorn game it became absolutely clear to me that without a Carey to carry out his one gameplan, there is nothing else to Denis' bag of tricks. I've got no doubt he tried his best, and I'm glad he responded with dignity at the press conference today, and I indeed wish him all the best (who knows, at a different club the formula might work). But the time is now to stop the bleeding and give this batch of extremely promising young men a new environment and new ideas to follow.

All the best Denis, shame it didn't work out.

Now its time for some of our senior group and match committee to wear some hurt.

Yes... but he has left us behind in hell...

Thank goodness we will overcome the waste of time that had become Denis...

Concur with EB and Mikkey. Dennis never had a real chance, he was always up against AND some of the c.rap written about him online was total and utter rubbish. Still given the results lately the club had no other option.

So can you explain why Denis never had a chance? He inherited a team that had some reasonable talent that he put off side (Allen, Beaumont, Hickmott, Ratten, Braddles), he had 5 years and was responsible for recruiting the likes of Ackland (we would've had Gardiner and Zantuck if he had his way). Players don't like him. He also had full control of the football dept prior to the last 12 months. He brought his own fitness adviser that oversaw players constantly being out of shape, had his mate Elshaugh to prop him up politically and somehow extended his contract when there was a mere sniff of success.

Look I wish him all the best but let's not give him a get out of jail free card.

I wish Denis all the best for the future. I supported him for most of his tenure but there comes a time when the best thing for all parties is to part ways.

All class today was Dennis. I hate the way the club has gone over the past few years, but lets face it he was handed a turd. It could of worked if we had a side ready to go. I guess he just wasn't up to the task of rebuilding.

All the best for the future Dennis and hope the nags treat you well.

Came for the money to fund his AMP policies and the Vet bills for his ponies.......did sweet FA during his time at the club and set the club back.
The results speak for themselves......a dark period in the clubs history and we need to be more careful who we choose next time..

Denis was always friendly and polite whenever I met him...and never looked over your shoulder as if someone else was more interesting. A gentleman.

He would hate for his time at Carlton to end like this.

All the best in your future projects Denis.

Denis today was proud to the end, but handled the situation with style and dignity......and still paid tribute to the C.F.C.

Thanks for your efforts Denis. With the players at your disposal there wasn't a lot more that could have been expected.

I think the recruiting of "recycled" players at the end of 2003 was his main downfall. If we picked up 2 off Deledio/Griffen/Franklin/Roughhead in the 2004 draft (as we should have) things may have panned out differently for him.

How much of that was Denis, how much the whole club? Because I agree that hurt, that and his refusal to use an early pick on a ruckman and his inability to develop a back six.

Agree with your post Electric

Growing up in Lee St & barracking for Carlton, this ending would be a bitter pill for for a proud guy like Denis to swallow. Thanks for your efforts & I hope you can enjoy watching the Blues develop over the coming years.

When I saw him speak at the fightback rally in 02 I was so impressed & really thought finals were a chance in 2003...but for so many reasons it just didn't work out.

For all his faults Denis Pagan always struck me as a dignified & decent man. Hope he is welcomed to the club with open arms for our next premiership celebrations :-D
