Can someone please take notes if they hear any of the press conference on the radio. I can't seem to get the stream of SEN working at the moment.

Haven't been able to get the steaming for a few days now. I suspect it is overloaded today!

quotes from the presser

Greg Swann: "we know where we're at at carlton. We've found a magic wand behind a cupboard at Royal Parade, we've waved it, and it actually worked. We've been looking for answers for a while, but gee, someone was pissing down our backs and claimed precipitation. The old coaches take time. You can't just put them in pressure situations and expect them to react in the modern game. "

Braddles wants to be a senior coach one day too.

I think it will reflect badly on Ratten if he declined to be caretaker so that he wouldnt have losses on his resume

IMHO I think the senior playing group should butt out ... they are hardly blameless is this whole sad, sorry saga.

They should be well and truely ashamed of themselves ... the only thing I saw yesterday, was the kids trying their best.

Once Swann annouces DP 's demise, he should makes it very very clear that all playing positions are on the line and past efforts and history will mean diddly-squat ...

no more talk of tanking , I want to win games or go down fighting !!!!

I'm sick of this shite. Give me my Navy Blues back !

Agree mostly - some 'senior' players need to look at themaelves.

Well, all the DP haters will have their moment in the sun, but if we get a great coach and still lose will DP be villified?

You can't polish a turd, and two number one draft picks does not a premiership team make. (Or three... )

I was a Pagan supporter up until the Hawthorn game this year, and I've steadily grown more weary of the same old crap. For about 3 or so years I stuck by Denis, always looking to his previous success with both senior and younger players as evidence that we just needed patience with him. But during the Hawthorn game it became absolutely clear to me that without a Carey to carry out his one gameplan, there is nothing else to Denis' bag of tricks. I've got no doubt he tried his best, and I'm glad he responded with dignity at the press conference today, and I indeed wish him all the best (who knows, at a different club the formula might work). But the time is now to stop the bleeding and give this batch of extremely promising young men a new environment and new ideas to follow.

All the best Denis, shame it didn't work out.

Now its time for some of our senior group and match committee to wear some hurt.

It was pretty short but sweet. Swann started with the official line, and then Denis fielded questions from the reporters. The main points of his were that
- He understands this is a win/lose business, and knows the realities of how football clubs work.
- That with another 30-40 games this group of players will be successful
- He was very proud to be associated with the CFC and that the club will still be around when we're all gone
- He doesn't blame the players, nor feel any bitterness towards the club. He actually sounded quite sincere in this too.

The overriding feeling I got is that it seemed as though a weight had been taken off his shoulders, and even though I think this is the best decision to make, I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him. He seemed...happy.

If Ratten wants to someday coach.. its a great idea that he declined caretakewr coach with us.
He would have to try and prove himself with a win......

Great outcome...!!!

good luck to Denis... but really... how much time did you need to find us a gameplan and organise some setups???
Welcome Voss !!!

I'm sure $700,000 helps one get over the indignity of it all.

Well do we know that he's being paid-out for next year, or is there a clause somewhere that can prevent that?

Just on 774 newsbreak...

- Swann told Pagan early today he would not be coaching Carlton in 2008
- Was agreed that it was best to go now
- Pagan expected the news after the Brisbane loss
- Pagan said the mini achievements (pre-season flags) were nice, but he just didn't win enough games
- Not sure if he wants to coach again in the AFL
- Board will meet this afternoon and expect to announce caretaker position later in the week
