I think Connolly and Daniher resigning will have a panic effect on other clubs considering coaches and with Voss in the frame for most jobs it will lead to panic at Carlton board level and sign Voss without going through a proper process of seeking out other applicants.

That will be a mistake IMHO.....the club must stick to do things right instead of making these rushed decisons..I hope Brian Taylor is wrong and the club prove me wrong and we get the right man by using the correct process....

Oh Pur-leeease, who the hell are you?? Doris bloody Day??

I'll tell you what's disgraceful.

Disgraceful is cleaning out the list twice in 5 years and still being down the bottom.

Disgraceful is getting humiliated by big totals every fourth week in your 5 year tenure.

Disgraceful is promising the humiliations would be over but they continue.

Disgraceful is saying we are 3 years away from being competitive, but 4 years later we're still down the bottom.

Disgraceful is being on $800k for 5 years and come Year 5 you still haven't established a Back Six

Disgraceful is rubber stamping a 3 year contract for a 196cm hack ruckman, who has already played at 2 clubs (how suss is that?!!)

i know this goes against what i had posted few days back about Denis most likely to stay than not, but was told today that board members met with Swann & Sticks on friday and had gained board members approval for Denis to be paid out and not see out his contract in 08 but be given the option to see out the year. Expect an announcement either monday or tuesday.

and no this information did not come from the email doing the rounds at the moment.

There is NO WAY Denis will go before the end of the year.
Look what happened at Melbourne and now at Freo with caretaker coaches.
First up wins.
What a disaster if we had Ratts with a 1-6 record at the end of the year....

If this could be resolved and announced either way (Pagan will stay for 08/Pagan will go now or years end), we could plan now for next year.
Put any young players who are playing injured on ice to rest their injuries. (Thats the rest "ice", not the Ben Cousins one)
Anyone who needs post season surgery, put them in now so they are ready for pre season.
Get gametime into any youngsters that would benefit from it.
Give borderline players the opportunity to prove themselves or put tradeable players on show in positions that will enhance their marketability.
Try kids in different positions for future reference to see if they adapt.

At the moment, we appear to be just floating along without any long term objective.
Prepare for 08 now.

Agree BV. Plan for 08. O7 is in the past now, but

Get rid of Pagan and install Ratten as coach with the view of seeking a new candidate for 08 and beyond.

And replace Pagan for the remainder of the year with a mentor rather than coach(let Ratten coach, see how he goes)

I mentioned before in one of the other forums that Tom Hafey would be an ideal person for this job.

Its obvious that many of our young players have had much of their confidence sapped by our head coach

Hafey would only have a positive , refreshing effect on these kids.

Whats the point of keeping Pagan when he seems to be on death row anyway.

Lets get the ball rolling.

Look, we have to let Pagan run out the year, no good to get rid of him now. I base this theory on Melbourne and Freo, cut Pagan now and appoint a caretaker would result in a win, no good for the club long term.

That's been my biggest frustration for a number of years.

Too slow react & adapt when the draft was introduced.

Too slow to react on Smorgon

Too slow to react on moving Lance & other overpaid/inconsistant players on

Too slow to react on getting real development/gametime into our young players

To @#$%&! slow in moving Pagan on......

A lot of time has been wasted over the last few years IMO.

Too slow

I have beeen watching Carlton since 1953. For this period , Denis would win the worst Carlton coach award by the length of the Flemington Straight

Pratt and co might be thinking that if we bump him off now DP could then activley seek another job at another club which if he gets one the payout maybe 600k for example less the wages he will recieve from the other club. I do not know how contracts work but that is how it works in most soccer clubs in europe. Knowing us we probably stuffed up the contract with DP, who knows how coaching contracts are structured with regard to this?

A very interesting interview in the Hun with Kouta where he vents his frustrations with how long it's taking for things to pick up onfield
Quote:
We have been inconsistent and used how young our team is as an excuse, but there are a lot of players with a lot of games under their belt. We have to get that consistency

Also get the indication he's definately finished this year and looking for a coaching role.
Quote:
"The club does mean that much to me, so I probably wouldn't want to be associated with any other club," Koutoufides said.

"I can't imagine myself being away from Carlton. I'd love to stay associated with them, maybe in a part-time coaching role."

I don't care about the priority pick. I am a shattered individual at present and am very close to pulling the pin on watching games at all that Carlton play in. I desperately need a win to bring back the enthusiasm and so do the players. Nothing will please me more than a new coach and a shock win over St Kilda that removes them from the finals equation next week.

At worst a new coach brings hope and a spark, he will bring the best out of the players as all are put on notice to perform or see you later. Competitive games and possibly a couple more wins will be back on the agenda for all Carlton supporters to see.

I'm fatalistic about getting the PP. Que sera sera (and I'm not Doris Bloody Day!).

IF we pull off a win b/w now and end of 2007 what it will tell us is that our list is not bad enough to need a PP. What it would also reflect is how UNDERPERFORMING we have been in 2007, a year that we should have made more progress. 6-8 wins with our list should have been a given.

Ants win y'day gives me plenty of heart for 2008 and onwards, throw in a new coach, proper player development and we're off to the races.

If they don't sack Pagan this week it is a disgrace to the name of the Carlton Football Club.
