A lot of people, including the moderators and the rules of the site, are oversensitive to criticism.

but when does criticism become abuse?

stick around and find out

Mods, can you make Tyrant a mod? Would love to see how he went.

The thing is, like you Jar, I wouldn't want to be a moderator, because I have a personal agenda.

Moderators with very strong personal politics should take note of that, because sometimes I think they play a part in their moderating... or they seem to pull-back because they're stuck in the middle of having their say, and appearing impartial.

I mean, the pro-Pool garbage that camel takes with good grace is unbelievable!

I know if I was moderating, I would avoid saying half the crap that I do. Would be a burden for sure.

It is a tough job.

Would be a good excuse to create an alter-ego though and let your real feelings/opinions out that way.

Tyrants, isn't you getting upset because you were pre-warn warned just the same as people getting upset because someone called them stupid? :? 8)

It's all so confuuuusssing.

Moderation will never be done to suit every single persons ideals. So I guess you will all have to get used to the way the current moderators run the show, until we get sick of the job and others take over.

And no Synbad, you can't be a mod. :D

No, because it reminded me that I was at the mercy of the moderators fingers.... if someone calls me stupid, they're both a) wrong, and b) of little consequence.

A lot gets said in the heat of the moment. We're all big enough to take it.

Reckon it would be a pretty boring site without the occassional spat.

Mention Whits, Campo or 'tanking' and it can be on

Although I tend to agree that personal abuse only devalues your arguement.

That said we are all grown ups and should be able to take a bit of rough and tumble. In short if you give it then expect it to come back.

Finally I do not have a problem with the way the mods are doing thier job, if they tell me to pull my head in and they haven't yet I would respect thier request,.

Yes, you are at the mercy of the moderators, but so am I and everyone else on this site.

The main reason we have these standards is because we all (the carlton internet community) got burnt by a few too many arguments on the previous site, and as a moderating group, we don't want to have that happen here.

Sure we are all big and ugly enough to look after ourselves, but without some form of standard, we wont have a guide to measure what is and isn't acceptable behaviour. We can't go open slather as it will eventually bring down this site.

Remember, we are all guests in one virtual house here. I'm sure in real life you don't walk into a friends house and shit on their rules. I would expect you (and everyone else, including myself) to follow acceptable behavoir here too.

Having said that, if you feel that the posting guidelines are crap and need re-visting, then please do so and submit the changes to your favourite moderator. Maybe we can break it down point by point and have a vote on the matter.

Well, actually (as I see it), the "previous site" suffered because of a despotic moderator who took too many liberties with the rules, changed them to suit himself and invented others, and ultimately lost his rag.

The problem before was not that there were not enough rules.... its probably that there were too many vague ones that could be manipulated by "precious" people.

And gee...... its not as though we DON'T have arguments over here do we!

Here's 2 suggestions:
1) "Personal Attacks" are allowed, as long as they are not crude, not racist/sexist/homophobic, slanderous and not direct threats.
2) Pre-Warning Warnings are done in a PM, and should not be made on a "whim".

This is like the Umpiring debate. Its tough being an umpire, and we admire them wanting to do it... but when you become an umpire you do open yourself up for some degree of criticism.

To draw a football parallel, we all respect players that are hard at the footy, but really, who doesn't love a bit of biff to go with it...
