Nice mention of the Blueseum in the Sporting Life section of the Age today.

Good one molsey.

Well, I found that interesting anyway.

BTW, anyone with the 1981 Grand Final on DVD or tape in Melbourne (preferably City or Inner West) please PM me for a quick pick-up, game review for the Blueseum and return.

Mols....I've got the tape; but I'm on the Peninsula.....unless I post it to you in a mailbag?

Thanks Warbs...all done. Lots of great goals in that game, was a pleasure to re-watch the game that brought me to Carlton as a kid.

Please feel free to add any particular memories on the game.

Warby - the video will be sent back to you during the week. Thanks on behalf of the Blueseum.

Thanks mate.....got a bit on my mind lately; and that one went thru to the keeper.

Called "Mr.Elegance" by Lou Richards for his "English Country Gentleman" style of dressing; John was also labelled "Ragsy" as he was a Rep. for "Holeproof" Lingerie/Stockings in Brunswick......(The Rag Trade was a broad name for the Mens/Womens Clothing Industry)

As I recall; he didn't want his full family name to be made public.

A great attacking half back flanker; John played a major part of Carlton's second half revival in the 1970 GF; when Barassi shifted him to the wing at the interval.....he was fast; with a penetrating left foot kick.

Also the first player I can remember running and carrying the footy with one hand. He used to bandage both his thumbs with white tape and it sttod out like dogs' well, you know.
I loved watching him as a kid and if it weren't for Big John, he would have been my hero of the day.
Couldn't kick but... Penetrating I am not sure I agree with.

We've recently had some volunteers join in with the whole Stat Shot work; the idea being to represent the careers of legends for ease of reference.

Jezza's was done a while back:

http://www.blueseum.org/cfc/tiki-index. ... Jesaulenko

Jezza's career predates my time on this planet. But the one noticeable thing is the drop-off in his goalkicking after an amazing start. Why is that? his Bio doesn't help me - did he move to midfield or half back and away from the goal face?

My dad recalls Jezza's brilliance from time to time. He says he could and did play everywhere, so his goalkicking drop off may have been at a time when he was not in the forward line? I don't know the specifics.

There Were 2 very good Interstate guys who played for Carlton in 1984 who were suppose to be top recruits but never played a game, did anyone see them play and why they didn't make it and what numbers did they have in 1984. The players were Mike Smith and Jon Simpson

Also before my time molsey, but I'm pretty sure he moved to half-back more later in his career.

From what I can remember I think he had quite a few back related injury problems towards the end of his career and lost a fair amount of his speed & spring that was a trademark when he played on the forward line

Happy 2nd Birthday to the Blueseum!

Belated, it slipped by on the 14th of July.

Amazing how much has been done in 2 years.

For those that contribute here is a bit of feedback that the Blueseum got recently from a happy Carlton Supporter:

Quote:
I think that the Blueseum web-site is excellent and does the Carlton Football Club very proud. Everyone involved in setting the web-site up and contributing to it should be deeply satisfied with their work. The web-site is an absolute treasure trove of information! In particular, the game reviews and player profiles are very informative and well researched. Further, the pages about the club's history seem to have been written in a balanced way. The historical articles accurately describe events in the club's history, give due respect to opposition clubs and players, and do not gloss over the difficult times Carlton has experienced.

Well done to all involved!

Sometimes it feels like there is nothing but the difficult times. It's a nice read to see how good we once were.

OK peoples, this is history in the making.

We need to represent this event well in the Blueseum as it will be read for years to come. Verbs did a great 'The sacking of Robert Walls' article which drew heavily in quotes of people at the time - its a great page and something similar should be done.

How do we do it?

The above page, links to his last game and his stat shot (which covers his win / loss record), plus perhaps a summary article?

Lets agree a process and then leave it at that - i dont want it to be a negative rant but all of the issues probablyneed to be brought out

Yes, please contribute, it is an opportunity to capture a piece of history, please use it appropriately though, any overly negative or positive content will be edited out.

Regular readers of this thread will be pleased to know that the Blueseum has received it's first ever piece of memorabilia directly from the club. As part of a helping out the NSW AFL Football History Committee with some information about past player William Goer the photo below was sent to the Blueseum from a gentlemen currently working at the club on a project properly sort out all of the club's memorabilia. The photo is from 1888 and taken on a trip the club took to Tasmania.

In order to celebrate the Blueseum's second birthday last month, we decided to trawl through the hits data and announce Carlton's 5 most popular games, as decided by users of the Blueseum site.

Have a quick look - the article links to the full game reviews as written by the Blueseum contributors.

I have given the site a bit of a new look:

Let me know what you think, please have a look around and see if anything looks out of whack on your screen/setup.

First impression is a big thumbs up from me. :-D

Only comment I would make -- which is very much a take it or leave it comment -- maybe alter some of the coloured text. The link text, for example, might look more "Carlton" if it was #003366 (or thereabouts).

Great! That means a lot due to fact that you are in the design business and also that the site looks alright on a Mac.

Good idea re the text, the linked text colour has been changed.

Sorry Jars, but I'm a negative.

The blue text on white is okay, but the use of underlines instead of bold characters looks messy to me.

The pages now seem cold in white, rather than warm in blue.

I much prefer the old format. :(
