Ryan,

I always like reading your considered opinions. I agree with you fully. If we are going to continue to rotate, then does it matter if we give it to Setanta? I reckon it would mean a heap to him. I'd also ask the question if an Irishman has ever captained an AFL side? (Maybe Jimmy Stynes did, but Garry Lyon would have been captain most of the time he was there, and I don't reckon Jimmy ever getting the gig).

I think the club needs to consider whether it is going to keep rotating, or whether with Lance out for longer they'll just give it to someone. But if teh choice is to continue the rotation policy then I reckon Setanta is a fair dinkum great idea. He'd show some real passion that's for sure.

If Whitnall is infact injured for another 3 weeks it means roatating the captancy for 3 more players.

Scotland and Fev just don't deserve it. So who else?

Murphy would be a great one.
As would Walker.

But another one that i'd love to suggest would be Setanta...................

DID YOU SEE HIM GRABBING AT THAT CFC LOGO WITH ALL OF HIS HEART?

Shit..........he deserves a go just for that.

I don't think i've ever seen a more passionate footballer.

Seeing him do that made me cry with pride - he soo loves the jumper. How many players in the AFL can we honestly say that about?

They should give it to Santy!

Yeah, over the past year he has really become one of my favourite players because of his passion and enthusiasm when he is playing.

Give it to Santy

That was a great goal and celebration!!

I tried to find it on YouTube but it wasn't there. It should be on display for all to see!

It should be the central focus of our membership drive for 2008.

Not sure if you guys missed this, but the club put 4 names to the leadership group to vote on.

The names were Fevola, Scotland, Simpson, and Waite.

The leadership group voted, and the club planned to rotate the captaincy based on these results.

Waite came 1st, Simpson 2nd, Scotland 3rd, and Fevola last.

So Scotto will be captain this week; and if the club sticks to the original plan, Fev will be captain next week.

Has this actually been confirmed? The last two weeks the club put up an announcement on the website towards the middle of the week. There doesn't appear to be any mention this week of who the captain will be???

Your theory sounds right though, just odd that the club hasn't announced it.

If Fev is to be captain after Scotland, one would expect that he would be brought in against Sydney. I think that's more likely than returning from a club suspension into captaincy.

After these four (if Fev does get a go), I think Carrazzo should have a go, maybe Walker, and yes, Setanta is actually a good idea. I saw him grab at his jumper...wow. I had shiny eyes.

Then again, are any of those three in the leadership group? I know Walker isn't.

Fev actually confirmed this last night on TFS. He used it to rebut the suggestion that his petulance was a reaction to not being named Captain. He said that he was going to get a go anyway so why would he crack the sh!ts!! I'm not sure he will get a guernesy as captain now (in fact I'm not sure he'll get a guernesy at all!!).

I'd love to see Santy get it. Not sure if he is a good enough player yet, but of all the blokes that take the field each week he is the one guy I know would eat razor blades for the CFC. Looks to me like he actually cares about the jumper and I couldnt say that for all of them.

its not always your best player is the most inspiring.

setanta is a cracker, his passion and his excitment is superb.

his attitude is spot on, he loves it

give him a shot, i cant help but think, if you made the man captain he would run himself ragged to prove him worthwhile.

if that sets the example to everyone around him . mission accomplished.

if all of our players had the desire and attitude of setanta, we wouldnt need any pciks this year.

Setanta is fast becoming my favorite carlton player.

Has a crack, stands up for his mate, does everything he can

Nothing official that I can find.

Seems strange that the club hasn't announced the captain yet.

All I could find is this.

Quote:
Last week it was decided a rotating captain policy would be implemented until Club Captain Lance Whitnall returns to the side. Jarrad Waite was elected to lead the team in Perth last Saturday and should Lance Whitnall not play in round 15 another member of the leadership group will be elected to captain Carlton in Sydney. Both Jarrad and Kade will not be considered as part of the rotation of the role until Whitnall returns.

Well done Simmo but also hope that Walker gets a run as skipper as well as he plays like a leader. Same as Murph.

I reckon it's a load of shit to be honest. Simpson isn't the captain, neither was Waite last week. It's just a bogus title now.

Exactly right... however, no matter how redundant the title is - I can see the captaincy being rotated for a few reasons... one, is that the kids are getting a feel for what it's like and at the same time the MC is seeing how they handle it, both with their approach in the rooms and on the field... looks at potential leaders of the future is how I look at it. And so I say keep giving it to the kids, they are the ones that are playing for the jumper and they are the ones that will be the future of the club - heaven knows Simmo was one of the only players that stood up last week, obviously still able to go about his business with the captaincy as well... shows he's got composure on the field...

Anyone else find it more than a little strange that it's less then 24 hours till we play, and the captaincy still has not been officially announced?
