This chart shows the percentage increases in memberships YTD. I am not sure when membership closes.

Whilst the improving teams naturally are having an increase in memberships it would appear that Carlton is the only club in the "sliders" category that still has a big increase in members.
I wonder if that is because of the improve last year, the Wizzer Cup win or the new Home Ground decision.

Collingwood, Essendon* and Hawthorn members all seem be deserting a sinking ship

Also Carlton now has the 2nd highest membership base in Victoria

Adelaide have nearly as many members as Kangaroos and Bulldogs combined. that is at least an extra $4 million in revenue.

Club memberships

Adelaide 43,252
West Coast 41,729
Collingwood 38,188
Port Adelaide 36,763
CARLTON 33,034
Essendon* 32,617
St Kilda 32,350
Fremantle 32,024
Geelong 30,080
Brisbane 29,595
Hawthorn 28,626
Richmond 27,720
Sydney 24,779
Melbourne 24,184
Kangaroos 23,596
Bulldogs 21,013

Some observations -

The Blues are 2nd biggest Vic membership overtaking Essendon*

Richmond have no claim whatsoever to be one of the Big Four - they are 7th in Vic memberships.

The Blues are 2nd biggest Vic membership overtaking Essendon*

Hawthorn have suffered because pet memberships are no longer counted in the numbers

The Blues are 2nd biggest Vic membership overtaking Essendon*

You have to feel that Melbourne would be well over the 30,000 mark if not 2nd or 3rd for Vic teams with about 10,000 of their supporters being MCC members (not sure how many have dual membership)

The Blues are 2nd biggest Vic membership overtaking Essendon*

Lets hope St Kilda can overtake Essendon* making the Bummers only 4th out of the Vic teams

The Blues are 2nd biggest Vic membership overtaking Essendon*

Sorry, I didn't quite follow.. Did you say Carlton have the 2nd highest victorian membership, overtaking Essendon*? Well I'll be..... That's fantastic considering we haven't set the world on fire this year to say the least!!

darknavy, I cant find our figures for 2003 but I think we are still below the number of memberships we had for that year.

It was definitely in the 33K range, but a touch higher than what the figure is at the moment. I think the cut-off for memberships is at the end on this month BTW.

Brilliant! To overtake Essendon* to be 2nd on the Victorian table is great considering they were looking to win another flag for Jimmy!

On the topic of membership - When I was at Optus Oval on Saturday i went to pick up my cheaply made free cheaply made hat before the game and there were still people buying memberships. Even on the back of the Richmond and Geelong games.

A good result all things considered, reckon if we where doing better on field we would go close to 35 000, in fact I won't be happy until we break that barrier.

The record is 33,525 from 2003 (which was about 6-7000 up in one year due to the end of Elliott, beginning of Pagan, new board, Black Friday, etc etc).

Cut off is mid June I believe. In 2003 we only added 225 between May 26 and the cut off.

That said, the current figure of 33,034 is about 10 days old there must have been a few sign up leading up to the final game at OO.

This is the third year in a row where we've been 32K plus which I guess, considering our form during that time would have to be considered our "membership base" now. Once we hit some form and put together a team that's a real shot at finals 40K plus should be attainable (Collo's talking 50K... ).

Great effort all round. :D

In addition, the Blues are 2nd biggest Vic membership overtaking Essendon*...

Amazing and in the body of the story there is not one mention of how impressive those numbers are. :garthp

As he should be. If we're supposed to have 600,000+ "supporters" around Australia, or whatever the latest figure is, then all of a sudden 50K looks pretty achieveable. The key is for the club to attract a decent amount of non-Melbourne people to join up. Steps have been made this year with the 5 game membership, well done CFC, keep up the great work, I'm right behind you all the way to 50K and beyond.

Some figures are a bit rubbery. Melbourne ended last year on 23000+ members. Now they're claiming that at this time last year they had only 19000. That sounds a bit dubious. Kangas sell 3 game meberships in Canberra so they are obviously of lesser value. The Bummers sell a lot of 5 game country memberships to boost their numbers (or at least they used to)

Does that include my two memberships and my housemate's two memberships (different bar codes on all four)?

It took me until the second game this season to get the membership and they send me two

Anyone else get a double up? If so the numbers are incorrect.

Having the 2nd Highest Membership of Victorian based clubs, does that make us eligble for the NRS?? :P

I'm starting to hate Saints fan's more than Collingwood fans. They will jump off the wagon at the smallest sign of failure yet rapidly jump back on it after showing some form and claim they have been a liflelong supporter!

At least Collingwood fans stick with their club no matter how shit they are!

Oh, and sorry...................i din't quite understand what you were saying about Essendon*. Could you repeat it?

I'd have to disagree with you there - St Kilda supporters have had more pain and agony than anyone - I wouldn't wish their misfortune on you or anyone.
The fact that someone would even affiliate themselves with such a sad pathetic mob has always had me stumped. They never really jump off their bandwagon (like richmond supporters) they just put up with mediocrity.

Sorry! I should have elaborated a bit more! My Bad!

The 18,000 constant members that they do have have my utmost respect! They are true fans in my eyes~! It's the rest of them, inluding the ones that give you shit when they beat your team yet they aren't even a member, are the ones that make my head expolde.

Yeah but when they beat us its like a premiership for them - the statistics are just insane -

They have beaten us like 38 times out of about 200 attempts.

Take into account their 26 Wooden spoons

their wooden spoon to beating Carlton Ratio is 1:1.46

On average they win a spoon once every 4 years and beat carlton once evey three years

Between us we have 17 Flags and 26 wooden spoons. If I was a saint fan I'd be bleating and crowing if they beat carlton too
