We can trade Fev for two 1st round draft picks...

... We've found a new full forward - Carlos.

Pros :
We played the kids and they had a go. They must be given games from now on to adjust to the pace of the game and game plan, if there is one.

Cons:
Poor disposals when under no pressure and the conversion in front of goals. If we kick straight we would have won.

Plenty of +'s despite losing. Besides, I'd rather lose when the kids are being played. It's not like we were smashed.

+'s
-JK best game this year, looked more confident and took some good marks, which I'd been critical of earlier in the year.
-Houlihan gave Davey a bath, and provide good rebound from defence
-Gibbs, looked like he belonged upfield - great mark and great effort to continue playing with an injured ankle.
-Simpson played a captains game, and lead from the front
-Setanta and his efforts all day - was spent in the second half as he was not only rucking but crumbing as well.
-Thought Bower was good, but not spectacular
-Hartlett is a forward, not a backman - should be left on the fwd line where he looked at home
-Lappins courage running into Carroll in the last
-Murphy, Carrazzo, Kouta all playing well

-'s
-Lack of leadership in our fwd line after free kick at the punt rd end against Setanta for hand in the back after Gibbs' mark and kick into fwd line near the goal square. Setanta remonstrated with the umpire for a few seconds after we retrieved the ball back by Simpson and Setanta kept going. We needed someone to pull Setanta away and tell him to let it go. Instead, Pagan sent for him to the bench.

Grigg's confidence will be totally shot after being caught twice - the first time when standing still. Looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. I felt nauseous, and so sorry for him, as if he was my brother. I saw him jog over near Scotland. There was no consolation, Scotland basically ignored him. Some attitude problem with that guy.
........

Too much of this happening. No talk ... very little encouragement from the few senior players to the younger ones. It's a bit of a concern. You need to show some unity out there guys.

CARRAZZO another excellent game - murphy - gibbs gutsy playing on one leg -houlihan a terrific 150 th - kennedy looks good -setanta had to ruck and go forward -imagine if he had just to play in one position
another game for bower
Simpson never stopped trying
We keep winning the clearances -more 50 entries -more scoring shots -imagine when we get reward for our efforts
Cons
Kicking for goal shocking
Umpiring so bad we dont need to tank -appalling
Lappin sorry been a good servant but is really coming to the end of his career

What am i missing with regards to Paul Bower? I cant see the potential in him yet there are so many on this site (including the makers) who seem to regard him.

Please explain?

And Josh Kennedy. The slowest CHF in the comp!

Pros:
Simpson, Houlihan, Setanta, Kennedy.
Good to see some younger guys, like Hartlett and Bower and Grigg, getting a decent chance.
Still a chance of getting PP.

Time to book in Walker for some early surgery. He looked fairly tentative today. Time for some long-term planning, and get Walker and any others well and truly ready for pre-season and next year (like Collingwood did a couple of years ago, and 'earnt' Thomas and Pendlebury as a result).

It's funny I was quite surprised when I logged on here after going to the game to find out people were bagging Bower (maybe it was a TV thing). IMO from being at the game he did quite well and certainly deserves to be in the team to see how he goes for the next few weeks.

Pro:

Gibbs not playing in the back pocket the whole game as per what he normally does this year.

He had a go on half back and half forward line- just so refreshing to see it.

Liked his mark, liked his goal.

Whoever it was who kicked out from fullback in the last quarter- was it Hartlett? that was a monster kick. Keep him in the team...please. pretty please with sugar on top.

Simpson's run and courage in the last quarter. well done, son.

Cons:

Where to begin?

mmmm.. maybe it is better not to mention these.

I dont think Kennedy's slow at all. He lacks a bit of muscle, but in limited time when he was played in the forward line he kicked two goals. I thought he played well considering. He usually leads well and hasn't looked slow to me.

Cons: not gonna mention any for the sake of remaining positive.

Pros: It's testament to this team that they can continually kick competitive scores without a defence, without any ruckmen without any semblance of a game plan and without a coach...or even worse a clueless coach...boys you are amazing to be able to score 100 plus pts with all these factors working against you.

And given that there was about 7 or 8 kids in the team who have played around 20 games or less thats a darn good effort.

I basically agree with the Dominator on this one.
Pros (from 10,000 km away)
Houlihan's game on Davey, shutting him down and getting plenty of it himself. Nice game, Houla and well done on your 150th.
Hartlett's pack mark (missed the goal of course)
Setanta's versatility and enthisiasm.
Carazzo and Simpson busting their guts.
The mids geting clearances despite a thrashing in the hitouts.
Didn't see Gibbs's mark or Murphy's early goal but will include them because the commenators thought they were great.

Cons (from 10,000 km away)
We as an AFL team entered the game with a side that had no rucks selected.
Ditto FF to straighten us up. Before the game I was certain Hartlett would stay there all day.
Eddie Betts 2 possies. Shocking if not injured. Bye for now.
Waite playing on the backline despite us not having a forward structure.
Kicking for goal.
Their ease at kicking goals with no apparent pressure. (thus kicking straight)
Pagan allowing an injured Gibbs to re-enter the field, risking a serious injury. (read club doctor there as well)
Grigg's game time or lack thereof.
Lack of down-back structure. We had it for a few weeks and then robbed it to bolster the fwds and rucks.
Being beaten by a kid with one prior game.
Being beaten by a kid in his first game.
Getting towelled upp by the player I wanted in the '05 draft (Jones)
Denis getting outcoached by a first gamer.

I have never called for Pagan to go before but in the face of what seems a ridiculous team selection to start with, followed by the playing of people out of position as a result and then letting their winners keep winning without making timely changes or trying something remotely different with the game plan has changed my mind. I always thought he should go but I am now jining the chorus of people who are calling for his imminent sacking. I don't care if we win more games or not. This loss was a bad one. Fancy getting beaten by the side 15th onthe ladder with almost all of their matchwinners out.
IT ISN'T THE PLAYERS' FAULT. THEY DO WHAT THEY ARE TOLD TO DO AND PLAY WHERE THEY ARE TOLD TO PLAY.

Pros

The team that was picked was the team I've wanted to see playing for Carlton for quite a while. Great to get game time into kids like Bower, Grigg, Kennedy, and Hartlett

To me... all of our blokes put in an effort. They tried their guts out, and I suspect many of them will end up having glorious careers for this football club

Kennedy, Grigg, and Bower all attempted to provide blocks for our runners... it almost looked like modern footy in passages!

Cons

To see that our kids are not ahead of their kids in terms of development is a complete and utter embarresment for this football club. Have a look at where Melbourne have been. They made the finals for at least the past two seasons. This indicates they were playing a group of seasoned campaigners, and therefore there has only been a need to infuse the side with younger players in the last few months. In comparison, we have finished wooden spooner for the last two years. This should have meant the opportunity to blood young kids and give them significant game time. Kennedy and Bower should be at least 1.5 years ahead of the Melbourne guys in terms of development. Hartlett should be 1 year ahead. Yet these guys are starting from scratch in comparison with the Melbourne guys showing a total lack of comprehension from our MC as to the status of this football club over the last two seasons.

A lack of on-field discipline and gameplan. I'll slate that home to the coaching staff.

I'll presume that Denis is coaching again next week until I hear otherwise. His after match conference pointed to Whitnall's return as being vital to us. Sorry... but what was vital yesterday was the chance to give O'Hailpin, Hartlett, and Kennedy a run at CHF. All of them presented, and all of them contested. Even Lance's fans would admit that if 2007 isn't his last season then 2008 will be. There is absolutely no point in having him in the team taking game time away from these kids. Kennedy especially has every right to feel miffed if he is dropped on the back of yesterday's performance, and Hartlett has much more to benefit from being in the seniors than running around for the Bullants. Let's leave Lance on ice (it sounds like a Disney spectacular!)

Pro:
Simpson - well done Kade - took the opportunity to lead, and did so when needed.

Con:
- Shame some of the kicking couldnt win it for Kade.
- Fev being captain this week
- 10am and no press conference - Pagan looks safe for another week.

I truly believe we can,t condemn these young guy's on one game in the seniors. Only after continuity of games and game time can we make a judgement.
Helps if they can play in a stable set up to know their roles.
