you're probably a gambler and a poor one at that.
unfortunately the football department has little room for error from here on end.
ya we will probably pick up one good kid in this years draft that will be able to start round 1 2008. we probably have joey that will be a starter and hopefully austin too..with jk and hartlett.
we dont need wholesale changes we need to pick the right players.
the aforementioned trio still have a role to play in the squad in 2008. rpobably not automatic selections, but they are still better than what pick 35, 50, 65 will offer.
fev will likely stay put and kick 100 goals next year.
we dont want a list of guys that are unable to play AFL football... this years draft is too weak.
if we want to get rid of one or two of these guys then we will need to trade fev to the bulldogs for griffen and their first round pick....do you really want to lose the best forward in the competition?

Synbad I think you are fairly disrespectful to guys like Teague and Saddington. They may not be the future of CFC in the AFL but as team men and setting the right example to the new kids as people, leaders and clubmen they are light years ahead of the rest. Someone still has to show the way on the field in the VFL. A guy like Harford was terrific for the development of Blackers. The kids have to learn the right way from their older peers as well as the coaches.

I'm not saying these two shouldn't be delisted but I would rather keep them for another 12 months than have two picks at 60 and 70 just for the sake of it.

The rookie draft this year will be truly amazing. I shudder to think what might be left. I wouldn't be surprised if a few mature 20/21 yr olds get a look in to top up rookie lists.

These thoughts are purely my own based on what I have seen in the U18 Champs.

Regards Cazzesman

Amazing???

Do you mean as bereft of talent? Not very deep??

I think the draft scenario, for the last few years anyway; Has had some sort of negativity in relation to the depth in relation to drafts previous.

There will no doubt be diamonds in the rough again. Listening to Shifter on SEN last night, he was quite confident of the amount of talent once again that will be on offer.

He thinks there will be a similar number (53 last year) of kids drafted who played in the under 18 championship.

i reckon we could see clubs redrafting their delistings or drafting 21 y.o in the VFL/SANFL/ WAFL etc.. from pick 40 onwards

Synbad is right, 7 changes to the list is nothing and when you consider any trade for Fev is going to get us two top 20 picks if we want them over a pick and player. I'd actually throw in Bannister to make it 8. That would mean 4 picks in the top 20, 1 at 35-38, 1 PSD pick to get a player like Richard Douglas + Jacko and Aisake promoted.

Hypothetically that could mean, Masten, Palmer, Bellchambers, Myers, Hobbs, Douglas, Jacko and Aisake compared to Kouta, Fev, Whitnall, Lappin, Saddington, Teague, Bannister and McLaren.

Linchy what is Shifters role in the AFL and what is he paid to do????

There may well be 53 drafted. So what. I can go to the supermarket and buy 53 good apples or 53 bad apples. I've still got 53 apples in my bag.

Look I don't want to be negative but there are some fairly average footballers playing in the TAC U18 Champs this year. Div 2 has a handful across the 4 teams. Vic Country doesn't have much more. I'm not saying there aren't kids to draft I'm just saying there are plenty that I doubt would get past VFL level.

You watch the way the Eagles and Geelong play the game and then watch the standard of the kids playing in the U18 champs this year and tell me.

CFC can't get slower and we need kids who can hit targets. We also need kids who are footy smart and be proactive for 100 minutes. Past pick 40 this year we will struggle to find kids that can combine those 3 things.

Regards Cazzesman

Apparently the first round should be as good as any, however after that it's very hit and miss.....According to sheehan on sen the other night.

speaking the truth isn't shifter's job, he just talks about the championships and says 'he's got all the tools' at regular intervals.

With all due respect i cant see the point in keeping these guys if what they are teaching the younger players is how to play below average football,The effort i saw today from Saddington and Ackland in the Bullants was exactly how they have been playing in the seniors-pathetic

I heard that interview and I swear he said it would be more like 40 this year.

If Fev is traded (and I hope he isnt), I d prefer to get a proven gun player in return as Draft picks are a gamble and we dont want to give Fev up for kids that dont end up doing anything (eg. Livo, Sporn, Vance etc)

Spot on Mordan. He said this draft would be in the 35-40 range.
