Well things are suddenly not as rosey as they appear....
Fev's come out and contradicted Carlton.
Contract talks have stopped and although he says he wants to stay, things seem a little bit shakey.
Did anyone else get a bad vibe from Fev tonight???

I hope he was just bullshitting it about a bit, to be a bit of a "contract tease" to Fat Ed.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was even asked to create a stir by the producers of the show.

I watched that part.

I think Fev opened his mouth too quickly, then realised what'd happened and backpeddled quickly. He became visibly embarrassed by his suggestion that things weren't going well, or that he was looking elsewhere.

I was heartened by that. I think Fev realises he doesn't have as much "hand" as he thought he did, and... realistically.... no one will have more money than us to sign him with.

The odds of Fev leaving off his own bat are poor, I'd say. If he goes, its because we swapped him which, personally, I'd rather lose one of my bollocks than do

Reading between the lines, that was what I got, maybe Carlton want to keep their options open re trading Fev at the end of year. I hope he doesnt shit in his own nest here.

spot on

the thing we need to remember here is that Brendan Fevola is not Sir Anthony Hopkins. Nor is he Albert Einstein. He's a bit brutish dumb guy who's overly cocky by nature and opens his mouth before thinking. He's always bound to be good for a headline or 2..... but you could see on the show that he knew he'd gaffed and was embarrassed about it.

You'd like to think that every member of the squad has the mind of Bertrand Russell, but the reality is, most of them are more like Plastic Bertrand

For those that missed the segment, Fev was one of the 'Panel' members. Just after discussing one of the upcoming games, in a thoroughly spontaneous and unscripted move   Billy Brownless asked fev about whether he was negotiating a contract with Carlton or not.

Fev answered that he wasnt at the moment. In what was undoubtedly the second part of the set up, Eddie then chimed in with a comment about the Caro article of 2 weeks ago. At this point you could see Fev starting to slowly realise that he had just been lead onto the gallows. What followed was a series of awkward moments where Fev tried to joke around a bit and extricate himself from the situation, but all the time seemed to be digging himself deeper. The worst of them was when they all asked eddie if he had spoken to Fev about a Collingwood contract. Eddie joked about a picture of Buckley (referred to as Bucks). Fev misinterpreted this as a contract figure of a million bucks and tried a poor gag. The gag misfired and the rest of the panel members descended upon him with questions over how much Fev wanted etc.

In the final paltry episode, Eddie produced one of those giant cheque things with a million dollar figure on it and the Collingwood logo and, to the theme from his other show, 'who wants to be a millionaire' presented it to Fev.

To Fev's defence I thought he was very loyal. He joked along for a while but when he realised that he was slowly becoming the panel's supper he repeatedly confirmed that he had been advised that he was a required player for Carlton next year. Sam had him admit that the reason Carlton were probably hanging off on negotiations was because they were expecting better performances. He said that he would love to play for Carlton, didnt want to play anywhere else etc etc.

Even after the subject had finished, during one of the other 'high brow' discussions he interjected with a comment that he would 'definately' be at Carlton next year!

In all I felt sorry for the bloke. It looked to me that Brownless/McGuire and co set him up big time. I love Fev but let's face it, he's not quite Mensa materiel when it comes to arguing his way out of intense scrutiny. Storm in a tea cup. The appearance of the oversized Collingwood cheque confirmed the staged set-up.

Carlton are keeping their options open for 2 reasons:

1. To see if he is more consistent with his performances over the next 13 games, and
2. If there is enough talent with the top 5 to 10 picks in draft, we may have a card up our sleeve and potentially use Fev as trade bait.

Fev won't have a say as to where he goes, the club will!!!!

They'll publicly say "he's a required player", which is what they have to do, but come end of season, it's a different story.

Shame Fev's not that smart....
Didn't see it but from what's been mentioned, when the cheque came out, he should 've said something like "So Buck's is retiring to make SC space and you're getting rid of Tarrant...interesting...."

Got a phone call from my brother's mate who was in the audience last night on the footy show..

Apparently after the show the audience are allowed to yell out questions and stuff to the panel.

Some guy yelled out to Fev

Crowd member "Fev, will you be playing for the jumper next year"

Fev "Of course I will be playing for the jumper next year.....(bit of a pause) and the money as well"

Money, its that matters these days, the AFL, clubs and players are just the same... Making a living of the game.... Hey, but whats new...

Fev will stay ( heres one thing I agree with Synbad on)

I wonder how many times Fev has to be set up by the Footy show before he realises he is being used as a stooge by Eddie to make Carlton look foolish, much the same as he use Barb a couple of years ago.

ca plane pour moi? eh Tyrant

lucky I am a one man band at work - I have had to change my jocks after cacking myself with the Plastic Bertrand and Berty Russell analogy.

I refuse to believe you are 25.

This is partly true.....however, if the Club decides to trade him, then Fev has every right to refuse that trade if he does not want to go to that particular club.

The realistic scenarios are:

1. Trade him to a club where he'll agree to go.
2. He cracks the shits and simply walks out of the Club and into the lottery of the PSD (however, by that stage it'll be more than likely set in stone as to who has first pick in the PSD - so this may well prove to be a pre-meditated move by Fev, depending on who has first crack in that draft).
3. We re-sign him and everyone's happy.

Gonna be an interesting 13 weeks for the lad and the Club.

So Bluemark, anyone Synbad whoever else has inside info.

Are the negotiations going on, or waiting till the end of the season ?

I cannot believe the club is waiting, what for he is very important to the club, we cannot afford anything backfiring.

I am losing confidence in the whole matter.

Sorry, but if Fev is signed up by the Blues and then they trade him he goes to whoever we do a deal with.
