Also remember Carey does not get paid to tutor at Carlton...

and Lance going to CaRey for extra work is out of the question. He would have to stay back after training... thats being PROACTIVE..
After the drills Carey will stay back with fev, Raso Deluca etc tomorrow night.. Lance wont be there....

SB good point, but we could trade all of those boys and still not get the same as we would for big Lance... It's just something to think about...

A bit like a D grade maths student knocking back free tutoring from the class maths geek, because that would interfere with his PS2 time.

Are you saying Synbad that Lance wasn't instrumental in getting Carlton over the line in the last qrts against Essendon* and Hairthorn ?? Where were you Synbad, did you go home early at 3/4 time mate....

Im saying if it wernt for eddie Betts we wouldnt have beaten Essendon* and Hawthorn... Eddie is on 35k plus 2k per game... plus the living away from home allowance(if they gave it to him)...

Lance is an overpaid hack!!!!

uh huh..thats what im saying..

Sure!!! Go back and look at the games again....

I dont think Lance was any more instrumental than Eddie...

Why is it that a guy playing for more than 500k plays a couple of good quarters in a season and there are people in here singing his praises?
Lance should be a very important player week in week out...
By the way its not me that doesnt think he is worth shit.. its Denis and 15 other coaches...
I just happen to agree with them all...

Eddie Betts:

$39,300 base

$2,200 a game

$2,100 bonus 1-5 games

+$2,100 bonus 6-10 games

+ $2,100 bonus 11+ games

+ Travel allowances, moving allowances etc.

Already played 8 games so:

$39,300 + $17,600 (8*2,200) + $4,100 = $61,000 so far this year.

Probably > $80,000 by years end.

Interesting comments from the Duck. Lucky he's not costing us anything because I'd be expecting our forward coach to be giving at least some attention to our highest paid forward.

I'd be happy if our highest paid forward, actually played in the forward line!

Spot on Knackers.

Continually played out of position & bagged for it. Look at his stats all you like, but if he's being judged as forward & only spending half his time there, then the stats don't mean sh*t

good coinage for an 18 year old. A previous regime will have offered him a 10 year backloaded contract for next year, where he got 2 bob a week for the first year, and $2.6 million in his last season.

I am amazed at some peoples attitude towards Lance. Lance over the last couple of years has been asked to play back , then move forward, contest the ruck and at times sacrifice his own game for others. Lance at present is 7th on totally disposals and seeing that most of the guys in front of him are the so called down hill skiers I dont think thats a bad effort. We are all pretty quick to jump to the defence of Fevola when he is having off day blaming it on the poor delivery from midfielders. Well bugger me I didn't know we had a different more highly skilled bunch delivering the ball to Lance. You never see Lance up at the tribunal , you never see Lance drop his head and carry on like a big girl , You never see Lance mouth off at his fellow players. All those suggesting it was Eddie who won us those games have who look who set Eddie up for at least 7 of his goals this year.
To use Bomber Thompson words there are a lot worse than Lance at the moment and "you People" "yes You People" all of you" you people should leave him alone

I think the bottom line is, is Lance playing to the level of what we pay him? The answer is NO. If he was on $250K I don't think we would be as pissed off with his output.

Maybe, he's been moved all over the field in an effort to get some output from him?

No point leaving him in the forward line if he ain't doing anything.

Hey ...I'm a Lance fan and agree totally SB.....
BUT I can see Synbad's point....it's about pay/keadership/attitude....
Not being fit, Not mentoring kids at training, not particpating with the forward coach BUT one of the highly paids...he will open himself to this criticism.

Trying to argue form or play versus these is a bit of comparing apples with oranges which is why the arguments go in circles.
Every coach would love a Lance...throw him into any position....first picked....have to man him up or he will punish you....
BUT
every coach would also hate a Lance,...can get really unfit...will lead on the ground (by telling the youngies where to place themselves) but then not back it up at the club, would consume a fair slab of the SC....

It's because of the later that he gets slammed for the other stuff (and also why he wasn't tradeable). Getting the balance between all of these is the real key. This nexus will occur at the end of this year....

Quite right.
But you never see Lance practice goalkicking at training, you never see Lance doing the extras T/Bird and co. do, you never see Lance play a season in reasonable physical condition, you never see Lance impose himself on games like Fevola, you never see Lance take his share of contested marks, you never see Lance chase his opponent.

For the past 3 years, when the heat is on, you rarely see Lance at all. :?

Understand the difference between bagging and frustration.
Nothing would make me happier than to see Lance present himself in great physical condition and keep himself in it.
Nothing would make me happier than to see Lance dominate games and play to his potential.

And nothing pisses me off more than a player who can play great footy and doesnt because he doesnt have the discipline or application or want.

Yeah leave Lance alone.
Leave them all alone.
Let them put in poor efforts, put there hand out for their pay and we'll all applaud them.

I wont argue that Lance is getting Paid to much but he is not the only highly paid person at the club who is perfoming under expectations is he.
And why would you hang back and do goal kicking practice when you are lining up accross half back.
Yes lets trade Lance he is out of condition and we will keep those supreme atheletic types like Prendagast and bannister they mighten know what a football looks like but god their in incredible condition and to watch them run up and down that ground chasing their oppenent with the ball is just a sight for sore eyes.

It must have passed that message along telepathically.
I dont remember saying it......actually, I dont remember thinking it. :?

BTW, Lance didnt suddenly stop working on his goalkicking since he went down back a couple of weeks ago.
I've never seen him stay out and do extras.

I like Lance down back.
He has to chase, he has to run and he has to compete.
He can use his smarts and work the angles and beat his opponent quite often.
The difference is, down back he doesnt have a choice.

To quote the great RDB, "give me possessions and I'll shut up"
If Lance actually works hard, he wont be criticised.
If he doesnt, he deserves criticism.

Personally, I would make Lance play at FULLLBACK, even if he's getting beaten.

I'd say "mate, you're fullback/backpocket unless your weight drops below X kgs".

If he doesn't improve, he's out on his ear.

The thing that gets me is, Lance doesn't seem to give a crap about the club we love. He does the bare minimum... gets a FORTUNE for it, doesn't put-in off the track, tried to get traded at the end of the year and failed...... and .... still there are people willing to fight for him?

The guy doesn't want it, and we shouldn't give it to him.

I don't like Bannister overly much either.. and I'd delist them both. Our problem is we stocked up on battlers and now we're feeling it.

All this talk of poor wittle Wancey being pwayed out of position is a woad of cwap.

At $500K a year, a player should be the king of any domain he's placed in.

That sort of money spells "champion" but we are getting far from that.
