The first game I ever went to was Round 1 1989 vs Footscray @ Princes Park. Anyone old enough will remember that this was the game in which an unknown guy playing for Footscray named John Georgiadis kicked 8 or 9 goals against us. We ended up losing by 50 + points.

However, the highlight of the day for me was playing for Carlton in the Little League at Half Time. I wore No. 13 and played in the ruck, and we beat the Bulldogs 4-0-24 to 0-0-0.

I really struggle to remember my first game - I was probably about 5 years old (1977) and most likely sat in the press box as my dad used to do the 'around the grounds' for 3UZ. All I remember was that I had to be very quiet because people were broadcasting. Another clear memory was watching us lose to North in around 78/79 - Percy Jones screwed up a shot for goal in the last minute for us to just get beaten - I cried.

I remember my first Carlton game was at Princes Park and we comfortably won against Fitzroy. I can't quote remember the year though. It may have been 1988, or thereabouts.

Pratt stand was built in the mid 70s - are you thinking of the heroes stand? That was built in 1988 (I think)

Not sure of the timing here KK, but when they did build the Pratt Stand (then the Hawthorn Stand), the around the ground commentators used to sit in the back row of Bay 2, right up the top between half forward and the pocket, in the wind and the cold. We had seats about 5 rows in front.

But that might have been after you first went.

My first game is also unclear. I was actually chatting to my dad about it the other day, saying I thought it was the last game of 1974, a game at PP against Footscray. No idea if that is right though. I certainly remember going to finals in 1975.

Interestingly, dad has always said that his first game was in 1943, the last game of the year, also against Footscray. We needed to win to make the four, and a Footscray player kicked a point right at the death to force a draw, and we missed the finals.

Great story, except we made the finals in '43, and didn't play in a draw! Might have been 1942, where we missed the finals to Footscray by precentage, but again, we didn't play a draw that year.

False childhood memories are very common.

My first 2 or 3 seasons (1975 onwards) were spent in the outer at PP, until we got seats in the Hawthorn Stand. So by my reconning, maybe '78 or '79?

siegrfried, I know what you are talking about but at Carlton we definately sat in the press box - however I clearly recall at some other grounds him plugging the mike into a socket pretty much in a normal seat - if you know what I mean - VIC Park had that set up I think and the filth supporters used to pull the leads out when they were losing.

Carlton v Melbourne, Waverly, early 80's, ~10yo. As a country kid from Swan Hill it was a big deal to actually get to a genuine VFL game. I don't remember much other than the fact we won and that it was the first time I swore in front of my dad, I said "Shit" when someone fluffed a kick badly.

1968 - My first game, I think it was Barassi's last as a player. Can still remember visualise seeing the grass at Princes Park for the first time in colour.

1994, vs. Nth at the MCG on a Friday night.

Pissed down with rain, got drenched, left at halftime, as I wanted to watch the delayed telecast to see if I was on TV, and play with the blue power ranger I just got from World 4 Kids that day.

First game I can recall Kouta really turning it on too.

My first game was at Windy Hill in 1969 against Essendon*.I remember the bomber full forward Alan Noonan calling for a handball from Sergio Silvagni who had possession in the back-pocket. To the delight of the bomber fans Sergio turned & handballed to Noonan in the goal-square who kicked a goal. I was standing behind the goals and had a good view of this.

I also recall that the bombers continually kicked the ball to Barry Davis who was a Brownlow favourite at the time (the game I think was about round 20). This didn't help them as The Mighty Blues won the game and Davis didn't win the brownlow.

Rnd 20, 1980 - Princes Park. Blues defeat Bombers by 10 goals. Took me a almost a half of footy to get a hot dog and get back to my standing spot!

That was in 1944.

My first Carlton game live was actually Rd 22 last year. It would have been Rd 1 2003 ( ) had I not got sick Saturday afternoon.

Bloody not playing in Sydney very often...

typical freezing cold day out there - bloody dons won by a freakin' point, but it was awesome seeing the likes of williams, sticks, gleeson tearing around the park.

you haven't given much info here bluey - are you talking about the game when Glascott went to short pass to Bradley (or was it the other way around) - ball was intercepted - goal - game over?

That would ve ben on a freezing cold, windy day in 1994 when we lost to the Scum by a point in a game played out at Waverly Park. We played better all day but wayward kicking cost us the game (but kicked 7-20 for the day).

at Princes Park v the filth. My old man tookme & he got me down towards the fence in front of the old press box (northern side of ground)

I don't remember much but I think I saw Bill Toowmey who was a Ruckman of the filth drop our rover no. 17, Doug Beasy right in front umpire Harry Beitzel who did SFA. I also think we lost.

Similar to Thrylos,i cant recall my first game but my Grandfather and mum took me most weeks.I had a carlton jumper with the number 25 plastered on the back(devestated when he went to StKilda)before i could walk.Really started getting into it by `78 and remember getting hit in the head by a flying "tinnie" at the MCG in a match v Coll which may help to explain a few things.I remember two Fitzroy supporters at the Junction Oval stacking up there eskies so i could stand on top & get a good view.The adventure of going to all the suburban grounds as a kid was something else.I remember that unique smell of Princes Park,the cigarette smoke hanging in the air and the Peanuts guy making his way through the crowd-I loved it all.
