My Nan's family lived in Carlton (Princes Hill) when her family moved to Australia from Poland in the 1920s. She went to Princes Hill public school.

As a result of her living in Carlton with the Jewish community at the time, she was a Carlton supporter. She made all us kids Blues too (probably to the disgust of her Collingwood supporting husband).

I owe her a great debt of gratitude for her foresight!

3 of 4 my Grandparents were Polish, the other one was Aussie, with an English heritage. I'm Jewish (nominally).

1) Direct bloodline of Sparta
2) Coz of my godbrother, he forced me too say go blues every single time I was over at his place. I was born in "79" (Premiership year) and I was born in a Carlton hospital. Wouldn't change it for the world as Carlton is my life!

My father came off the boat from Warsaw in 1932 and moved to Carlton. He lived in Drummond St and Rathdown St and everyone followed Carlton. There was never a question of following anyone else. And why would you want to, there have been eight premershps in my lifetime?

I'm also Jewish if you haven't worked that out already.

This has been a great thread to read. Goes to show that whilst we don't always agree with each other on other posts, we can come together, share a little of our personal lives and reflect on the fact that we follow the BEST F$#$$ING TEAM IN THE WORLD. A toast to Carlton and it's passionate band of disciples. GO BLUES......We'll all meet together in Lygon St for one big festa and hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later

Born in Carlton!!! Greek Heritage, which makes me 100% Australian

My cousins used to follow Carlton and it rubbed off on me, thankfully.

My earliest recolection is listening to the 87 GF on the old radio in the kitchen....It snowballed from there, and i have rarely missed a match on radio/Tv since.

I'm pretty sure i had to wear a richmond top (there was no Blues tops, so my mum bought a richmond one) to school photo day, (Oakliegh primary circa 83-84) and i balled my eyes out.

Wow...strong Italian / Greek support on here.

My grandparents came out from Eastern Europe, and settled like most of the Jewish immigrants, in Carlton. My dad used to go to Princes Park as a kid with his uncles (his dad wasn't into the footy), and a small flask of whisky (if I remember the story correctly) given to him by his mother to keep him warm!

When I was a kid, and we played at home, we would park off Nicholson St, and walk past my grandfather's old house in Fenwick St. On the day of our last home game there against Melbourne a couple of years back, we took a photo standing outside the house - my dad, my brothers, and my niece and nephew. A photo spanning 5 generations of Carlton in the blood.

Needless to say, with a background like that and 2 older brothers in my ear, the first words I supposedly ever said were "'carn the Blues!".

2. Back in primary school, everyone in my class were Magpies, Dons, and Hawks supporters, i just wanted be different so i pick Carlton based on the blue colour, without knowing the history/background/how good or bad we were.

Maybe cause she hated her parents :-D

1. Born in Thessaloniki. Capital city of the State of Macedonia, Greece.

2. Arrived here when I was 5. At primary school, a couple of my Greek friends were Blues supporters so I did the compatriot thing and just followed. Also one of my neighbours (that I grew up with), was a Carlton supporter and his uncle was Bruce Doull.

1. The old man came to Australia in 1956 from Italy, by the time he was keen on the footy Ronald Dale Barassi was his hero.

2. Not long after birth I was sporting the big number two 2 on my back after Big Nick. In my teens I used to go top my dads work and Wayne Harmes and Mark McLure were working there. They used to put me on their sholders and take me out for lunch. My blood since has been blue :-D

Played with the Bombers little league when I was younger as I lived in the area and had no choice. Dad tells me I used to hate wearing their shit jumper. Those days you had to train for the little league and I refused to play against my beloved blues.

born in melbourne (carlton of course!!)

albanian father, italian mother.

despite my primary school in brunswick being made up exclusively of carlton and collingwood fans, i strangely decided to follow st kilda for a week ... that was until my mate jack torosides, bless him, slapped me around and made me support the blues.
