Location: Big Blue office at the bottom end of town
I guess Saturday marked the last time for a fair while that we'll be bidding farewell to a "spiritual" home. So the gang at Wolfister Inc (the big blue office at the bottom end of town) have put together a few stats looking at other last games...

Team's last games at their "spiritual" home.

12 sides have now said goodbye to 13 Traditional homes (I counted 2 for St Kilda as they played a lot at both the Junction Oval, and Moorabin... and I also counted Carara for the Bears!). The home side has won 8 times out of the 13 games (62%) at PM+24... making Saturday's result go against the trend. In fact, the only sides to have lost in their last game at their traditional home are Collingwood, South Melbourne, Fitzroy, Richmond and now Carlton... but of all the home losses ours was the smallest, and was also the highest losing score from a home team saying goodbye to their ground. Saturday was also the largest crowd at a farewell game.

Home Team v Away Team - Venue - For - Agst - Mgn - W/L - Crowd (Date)
Geelong v Footscray - Corio Oval - 89 - 84 - 5 - W - 10000 (24-Aug-40)
Richmond v Hawthorn - Punt Rd - R18 - 72 - 115 - -43 - L - 15500 (22-Aug-64)

Fitzroy v St Kilda - Brunswick St - R17 - 40 - 124 - -84 - L - 12165 (20-Aug-66)
Hawthorn v Sth Melbourne - Glenferrie Oval - R22 - 116 - 79 - 37 - W - 9842 (1-Sep-73)
South Melbourne v Nth Melbourne - Lake Oval - R22 - 74 - 107 - -33 - L - 8484 (29-Aug-81)
North Melbourne v Richmond - Arden St - R20 - 116 - 66 - 50 - W - 7341 (17-Aug-85 )

Carlton bidding farewell to grounds

Saturday was the 14th time that Carlton ran out onto a traditional home ground for the last time, winning 9 of those matches (64%) at PM+32. The only grounds we lost on when saying goodbye to them were Glenferrie, Arden St, Moorabbin, Western Oval and now, unfortunately, our beloved Princes Park... if only we could have played our final game there last year against Melbourne!
