Hopefully I can share a bit of good news to counteract some of the pessimistic crap I've read on here lately... and no I'm NOT pointing fingers! :)

(Apologies on the lack of detail in the title of the thread, but the less attention that this gets drawn the better)

I have this news on very good authority, but was asked to keep it quiet - that Nick Stevens has secretly signed a new contract. This has been kept quiet for some time for reasons unknown, I don't know the amount but I understand it's a 2 or 3 year deal.

I can only speculate as to why the deal has been done already prior to Stevens complete rehabilitation - but I'm not going to share my thoughts on here... you can all make your own conclusions. The contract was signed up to a month ago.

I'm not entirely sure when the news will be announced, or when the news is announced if it will surface that the deal has been done for some time.

Either way I'm stoked - although he still will not play again this year I've also been told that the rehab so far has progressed much better than anticipated - Stevens will - IMO - be a large part in Carlton's next premiership.

Please note that I do not divulge news lightly, and would not have posted this thread if I had any doubts as to it's accuracy.

Still, some good news... go Blues!

Giggity-giggity...

Yeah it was mentioned in an article about the Walker/Kennedy signings. The club and Stevens have come to an agreement about his next contract but he won't sign it until he gets the medical all clear.

Great news SB.

Not sure why the club would sit on something like that. I'm scratching my head trying to figure that one out.

Is there a reason why you don't want to speculate, cos I'm stumped?

Talking out aloud - perhaps the news about record membership and the pubs was more important..............

No reason to doubt your story at all SB.

Great news Stevo! Good to see the commitment and here's wishing your rehab continues to progress itself quickly and properly! Can't wait to see you back in the side next year. Go Blues!!!

Great news about Stevens should have been appointed captain.
By the way Electric Blue you never answered that question - How many times did big red have to go to the Health farm??

was on the radio abit the other night, before the game.

from memory it was something along the lines

both Club and Player had agreed terms with 1 proviso

medical report giving him the all clear.

Stevens will finish his career at the blues :) Stevens for Captain until Murphy is ready :)

Just on contracts :P
Did anyone else hear one ex-manager suggest one G Ablett jnr was offered money under the table, mentioned 120K, and he rejected it.
I am shocked and surprised that other clubs are and have been doing this.

Wonder if Demefroot will get stat decs and go after the puttycats?

Junior's manager mentioned it as part of their acrimonious split or something.

Also mentioned $15K to appear on the Footy Show, but wanted a a contract that had more scope for greater opps at 9 ala Hank and Fev.

The manager made the claim in evidence at a County Court case. So, not a throw away line - in fact it appears to be on oath and subject to cross-esamination at some point.

I have been told that the contract is signed, sealed, delivered. DUC, this ties in with my speculating - from what I've gathered Nick was happy to sign, the club was willing to punt (a educated decision based on medical opinions) on his ability to play again in the future, and therefore the contract was signed on a reduced amount - rather than waiting for his complete rehabilitation. The club taking a risk before knowing the full outcome of the surgery and so on may have been looked on poorly by the media and Carlton supporters, but in my opinion it's a good decision.

Probably good to get Nick out of the way (along with Walker/Russell), considering we have a lot of contracts to negotiate come year's end - and you know what, it looks like we've gone from an outlook pre-Pratt that could have resulted in us using under 100% of the salary cap - this was reported way back then wasn't it?

You can bet your ass it's not going to happen under Pratt.
